New 8 / project
I'm thinking out loud a bit here. My 2005 whitewater pearl 8 recently got totaled. It was a sad day. Everything sorted out nice with the insurance company and I am walking away from everything only down my $500 deductable - and 8 1/2 hours of my time spent removing the stereo and radar detector.
Version 2.0 of my RX-8 experience may wind up being this:
2007 Stormy Blue Mica Grand Touring - still waiting on a few details from the dealer but I may score a screamin' deal on this
Mazdaspeed full body kit minus the wing - I'll go with the standard wing
Mazdaspeed shocks & springs
Mazdaspeed strut tower bars (front/rear)
Advan Model 5 (18x8) in chrome
Mazsport type 3 turbo
...and I'll have to sort out an exhaust to go with.
oh yeah... and clear corners because the orange ones are lame.
I was going to eventually turbo my dead 2005 8 but obviously that never happened. I like the 'go fast' and after driving my nearly engine-stock 2005 for two years I really want more get up and get there. I don't think I'd gain anything from a more outrageous suspension setup since this is a daily driver - I won't be autocross or whatever. I just want something a little better than stock in that department.
I figure if I can score the used car I'll save a bunch of money off the new price and what I'm hoping is that it'll be nearly the $8500 that the turbo kit costs... that way I won't feel so bad about buying it immediately.

Also, they can eliminate the CEL problem after they install..., at least that's what I get from what I've read about their new package/kit somewhere around here. I wouldn't know though, unless I've seen it with my own eyes, I'm skeptical about it.
And, like everyone else has said, the new anniversary edition has an upgraded suspension and acceleration should be identical to a regular 8. Up to you.

The Pettit SC can't even compete with a Mazsport turbo kit. From what I've seen the Pettit SC is ~60 WHP v. ~150 WHP from the Mazsport turbo... and that's a ridiculous difference. And you're talking ~$5K vs. $8.5K in price. The turbo is much more satisfying in the long run.
The MS basic springs/shocks is a great (and pretty cheap) upgrade to the suspension. Forgive me that I'm not linking to it but I read a review that was linked from this site of Road & Track (or someone of that nature) just loving that combo about a year or so ago. If I really wanted to get on it I'd go with a coil over kit but I really don't think I'd appreciate the gains from something like that doing mostly (90%+) daily driving. I believe they said that the MS shocks and springs on their 8 did the slalum faster than a 911. Plus the MS gives a nice drop that takes up just enough of that space between the tires and the fenders to make it look a bit better as well.

I now own the car and await delivery. 2007 Stormy Blue Mica Grand Touring that is still brand new - some poor dealer never moved it. I paid $26,400. This was a different car than the dealer originally was talking to me about. Turns out that one is actually the Phantom Blue.
Time to start sorting out the rest of this.
