Ouch - my 8 got totaled

I've been scare here for quite some time I know... and for a reason that sucks.

Back in late October I got into an accident with my 8 - avoiding a big *** raccoon in the middle of the road and it was dark, wet, and maybe even a bit icy. Good times. I hit a curb and a rock wall that extended over the curb. The right front wheel took the brunt of the impact. I was able to get the car home but that was mostly because I was so pissed and the roads were wet enough to allow me to drive it home.

Looking at the damage you would never guess it was going to be totaled. Right front fender, the front bumper, right front wheel, and the right front suspension were all damaged but not much else. The repair costs are over $17,000. Yeah. $17,000. Apparently all those suspension parts are exceptionally expensive. There was also some structural damage that requires repairing under the fender that the suspension caused when it collapsed up. Great.

The insurance company is going to call me to start negotiating a pay out amount on Monday. Depending on which Kelly Blue Book value they use I may or may not be pleased with the pay out.

I'll be buying a new one as soon as possible. I miss my car. I'm sad. I might have to go with a different color this time. Like black. Or Stormy blue.

Sorry to hear about your loss Bri. Keep us posted, let us know how the payout negotiations go with the Insurance and when you're back in the saddle. (so to speak)

Wow Brian...so sorry to hear it. And after all the mods and new body kit too, right? Glad you weren't hurt. And the racoon wasn't either. And I bet he left the scene without giving you his insurance info either But seriously... looking forward to seeing you on a drive with your new 8

Damn, that sucks. Is the frame straight? If so, we may be able to fix 'er up for a lot less than 17K.

Hey Brian. I'm sorry to hear about your accident. That really sucks. Definitely negotiate for more.

The new '09 8's are coming soon with the facelift and new suspension. You should definitely get one of those!

dude..that sucks. Sorry about your loss. You shoulda taken out the raccoon instead! My grandpa used to say never to avoid any animal jump infront of you on the streets especially while you're driving at highspeed. You rather take them out than you yourself getting taken out, ending up in a ditch....or worse....ending up hitting other cars on the road. :D Well.....except if its a cow, elephant or t-rex! :P haha. In that case, I rather end up in a ditch! ha!

I am now the proud owner of a new 2007 RX-8 Grand Touring in Stormy Blue Mica. I scored an obscene deal through University Mazda. It is coming here from a dealer in Oregon so I won't actually take delivery until early next week.

Happy.

In April I'll know more about the ridiculous mods that I want to do to it. I know there are a lot of friggin' retards on this forum (NW people excluding completely) so I don't know how much I'm going to update. Odds are very extremely high that I'm going to full Mazdaspeed body kit and suspension and then do a Mazsport turbo. I'm talking April timeframe because that's when everything sorts out for me financially to make it go. You guys here will be the ones that know about it - if anything I'll show up to drives.

Still a little bummed about the 2005 whitewater pearl... it was a really nice 8 that treated me well. Hopefully the blue mica will treat me better... and with 150 more horse power.

Man what a crappy year 2007 was for you. Glad it's working out for you this year so far. Stormy blue mica's a pretty cool color...although I love the whitewater pearl too. I almost got one of those before getting the titanium grey.

After a big screw up and a few phone calls with some very bad noise... make that a 2008 RX-8 Grand Touring in Stormy Blue Mica.

The jackass dealer in Oregon sold my car. I don't know who f'd up but it happened. I "spoke to" the sales manager at U Mazda and he found me another car. I then beat him senseless over the price increase and got what I wanted out of it.

I'm picking it up tomorrow afternoon. Then I'm going for a drive if it isn't raining.

I've already begun ordering parts...

I guess it was time to bump this thread. I've been trying to hold off for actually getting some "things done" but the temptation was just too great this evening after washing/waxing The New Hotness(tm).

Old and busted (RIP):

The new hotness:

I find it mildly amusing that my neighbor's POS red truck is in both pictures. That thing is hardly ever parked there anymore.

I wish I could, man. I'm going to be playing at the Red Wind Casino all friggin' afternoon/early evening that day. I'll be driving it to the gig however. That place has the lamest stage imaginable and ridiculous sound (low level) requirements so I just bring my tiny practice amp with me.

Congrats on the new wheels, it sounds like you got a great price. I hope you didn't have to pay too much more than insurance gave you.
