You guys are totally oblivious to what I'm saying. I'm saying that the posts are irritating, that's all I'm addressing.

Infact, they normally the 2nd example you said...The only one that has stated the above phrase was a joke another member posted (from what I've seen).

And I think it's funny how you're only 19 and calling these 16 year olds "kids" by the way.

<3 people like you that assume everything.
I'm not assuming anything, you're taking my post too literally. Also, there's a huge difference in maturity between a 16 yr old and 19 yr old, and 19 is legally an adult, so I see no reason why I can't call them "kids".

<3 people like you that have no idea what they're talking about. And also, <3 people like you that wasted their money and got an automatic 8.

I think you're taking your own words too literally, maturity has little to do with age, you don't automatically get more mature as you grow older, it's not something passive that happens daily. That right there shows me how immature you actually are.

Just because the government considers you a legal adult, doesn't mean you are one literally, for all legal intensive purposes you are, but as far as how you go about on this forum and act, oh you're not even close in my opinion.

I have no idea what I'm talking about, so why even bother replying? Obviously I'm making a little sense and you're trying to defend yourself, bravo though, the you have no idea what you're talking about works every time!

You say you're so much more mature than a 16 year old, then you go and ruin it for yourself by trying to take a stab at me for having an automatic transmission? Easy there killer, I think you might have actually hurt my feelings.

Honestly when I read that I didn't know if I should laugh for lack of being able to come up with anything better than that, or actually feel sorry for having an automatic.

Having an AT or an MT makes no huge difference for me, I still have an 8 and that's what makes me happy.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my dad bought me the car (So it wasn't my money wasted ), so as far as transmission goes I didn't have that much input, it was the one that had the best bang for the buck on the lot (didn't want my dad to pay out the *** for a new car, I actually respect the man and he means a lot to me and I felt he had done enough for me, but he wanted to buy me a new car), sooooo I went with the best deal that they had for one, and it happend to be an Auto.

As long it gets me to point A to point B in a reasonable RX-8 fashion, the fact that I have 6 gear or 4 makes little difference. (Hint hint, I don't race or go to the track)

Cheers!

Odd how no one gets irritated by someone who makes a post EXACTLY like this and happens to be in their 30's, but when a 16 year old does it, and shows no signs of being a ***** or stuck-up makes one, suddenly they're in the wrong for posting.

They really mean only the best for my children, as long as i can afford it. and if you can afford it and you trust your child, then what the hell!

As I've said before, it's not these kid's fault that they are being spoiled and lacking a proper understanding of the work ethic. It's their screwed up parents who should be taking the blame.

Your parents are idiots to be giving a 16 year old kid these types of cars. You obviously sensed this was a poor course of action by you embarrassment over it. You also learned a valuable lesson of how some people will react to it. The guy who through the coke on you was a dick but the world is full of these types of people and more often then not when you are spoiled you develop a unearned sense of entailment then will attract these types of folks. Kinda like a great equalizing force of nature.

Long and short your parents are to blame and are misguided in their believe that they are helping you. You can't blame the kid for having messed up foolish parents but if not corrected you are likely to grow up the same way. Only time will tell.

By the way, I was 16 and got a new convertable camaro. I was so spoiled that I never told anyone I had it, never wanted anyone to know my parents had money, and didn't like talking about it because of jerks like you that auto-assume everyone that is taken care of by there parents is automatically spoiled and a *****.

Ever had a giant cup of coke thrown all over the front of your new trans am from a guy you've never even seen or spoken too? Know why he did it? A friend of mine told him about my new car, and he thought because I was so spoiled he would get back at me. - And just a little FYI before anyone jumps to conclusions, my camaro got in 2 wrecks (neither of them my fault) and was totaled, after that I bummed rides from my friends to get to school for a few months before getting that car. It wasn't a "LOL DAD PLZ BUY SPORTS CAR NOAW" moment.

<3 people like you that assume everything.

Everyone has there different types of parenting, and not one perosns belief is the "right way".

I respect your opinion on the subject, but I don't really see myself as misguided at all, I work for my money, pay rent for my apartment, groceries, spending money, bills (credit cards, High-speed interenet, etc.), the only thing I'm not independent on is my car. It's not like I have no idea what the "real world" is.

Speaking of the real world, recently my roomate lost his job and wasn't able to pay rent, I've been paying mine just fine for awhile now. They've almost evicted us because of this once due to not making full payments. The first time I thought it was because my check didn't go through, made my usual check to pay it, a week went by, wasn't cashed, I figured it didn't go through because my bank screwed up my direct deposit. So when they came to "collect or we'll kick you out" I figured, well shoot, it's my fault it didn't go through, my bank has the money in my account now, so I'll make the full payment again.

Now I look at my account last night, and low and behold, BOTH checks were cashed by the apartment complex and now I'm in the hole with my bank and getting charged overdraft fee's. Apartment complex said they were waiting for the next bill cycle to roll around or something to cash the first check and they realize the mistake that was made but sense my roomate still owes them for almost 2 full months they can't give me my money back because they need that to help pay off his debt otherwise we'll get kicked out.

Life sucks. So now I'm going to have to eat 2 months rent for only 1 month pay. Roomate says he'll pay me back, but it's not going to be in quick fashion at all. It'll probably be a month or two before I can get all that money back. When I need it now to be able to pay off my computer and other debts/bills.

So I'm a little confused on how that makes me a misguided child, wandering through the world lost and confused on how it works. The only reason I was embarrased about my car was because of those ****** out there that think just because their parents didn't buy them their car, or buy them as nice as one that I had, that they are automatically raised to be a better. So you'll have to apologize me if I don't want people that I'd otherwise be friends with because I'm actually a pretty nice guy, to hate me because of something to meaningless as a parent wanting to do something nice for their child.

You seem to be missing the point.

My point:

- This forum has started to suck once all of the folks that bought them new in 04 and 05 started trading them and made it affordable for many more to buy the car.
- FOR ME, the car was more fun to own when there weren't asswipe, still wet behind the ears, 16 year olds getting them as "hey you got an A in math" gifts from moron parents who wouldn't know how to parent a goddamned Chia Pet let alone a teenager.

FOR THE RECORD:

I have a fifteen year old son. No, he is not getting my RX-8 from me when I'm done with it. He finds it both interesting and scary to drive all at once, and has said to me repeatedly that him having it wouldn't probably be a very good idea. That said, if he has proven to me he can handle it, he will certainly welcome to drive it as long as I have it.

He is already saving to have a car - we have agreed that I will fund up to $6000 of the purchase price of a car, and I will insure it and maintain it. In fact, it will be my car, but its purpose is to have an extra car in the family so we aren't clashing over who gets what car when. If he drives it, he will fuel it. Once he goes to college, he can take it with him, provided he's maintaining a 3.5 average on a non-adjusted 4 point scale. At the end of college, the car continues to be mine, and his younger brothers will have it for their schooling.

So, no, it's not about this forum. I post here for entertainment, although the entertainment value of it has become less and less with the falling purchase price of the car. When I joined in 2004, we were all new buyers, generally speaking very interested in the rotary engine, probably more than a quarter of us were previous RX-7 owners and there was a point to it.

Now it's just a bunch of ill-informed morons and their $15,000 used cars. Meh ...

I still fail to see that just because a 16 year olds are getting them makes you not want to keep the car, I love the car a lot and if I ever have to get rid of it, hope that Mazda still makes a version of it.

I guess I still can't understand why if a 16 year old, or a 60 year old drives the car that it matters so much to someone as to not want to keep the car that they've otherwised enjoyed. (Or atleast I think you've enjoyed it. You posted a lot more when I first joined so I don't really know since I haven't seen much from you as of late.)

And as usual, don't really understand on how because a parent buys their kid a car, it makes them a bad parent. - But hey, like I said befor everyone has their own different idea's on parenting. Not one way is going to always work, and not one way is always right. If that works for you and your son, that's great, but I don't see why people have to parade around and preach that it's the only way.

It reminds me a lot of how people push religion on other people. Just because that religion works for you, doesn't make it the right one for eveyone else..

Never understood the disdain about a kid getting an 8 as a first car. I thought this forum was going to be chock full of the "Honda crowd" as the price became affordable, but that didn't happen. For the most part, the new folks been respectful and relatively civil. We've had our share of asshats, but it has certainly not been exclusive to the >20 year old age group.

As far as not "deserving" the car, at the prices 8s go for these days, why should they not deserve a used 8 over, say, a new Civic? They're probably in the same price range now. It's really not a super fast car, and it's probably safer than a lot of used cars out there (handling+ braking + tons of airbags), so I see it as a perfectly valid choice. Aside from the 8 being RWD, most of its features actually make it a fine choice for a first car.

Just because someone is 16 does not mean they must drive a junker just like you did when you were a kid. Driving a junker may, in fact, end up being more dangerous than an 8 due to a lack of modern safety features. On that point, about the only reason I can see to keep a kid away from an 8 at all costs is jealousy. If you couldn't have a cool car when you were a kid, then nobody deserves one. I don't buy it for a second.

(For the record, I started out in a Nissan Sentra, and if you really want to see a car that a 16 year old should not wield, try driving a Speed 3.)

Interesting, the new 18 year old owner who signed up didn't think he was bragging either, and he's had 3 very nice cars before considering the 8.

I'm guessing the only reason he put in his age and the previous cars he's driven was to brag though, because that's the only reasonable answer.
