All it takes is one brain fart. I was at 90k, never flooded, went to move my car, shoes were wet, foot slipped off the clutch and stalled. Spent the next hour following the factory de flood procedure.

My '05 will be 56 months old in April - never flooded once.
I've had one failure to start when it was 3 years old, and that was because of a dead battery (replaced by Mazda for free).

Cross my fingers. 2005 with 37K miles, but I am vigilant about not turning it off or stalling it when cold.

i don't get it.
one person shuts engine off after 10 sec., doesn't flood while other has foot slips it floods right away.
i had multiple times i had engine turned off when cold but my understanding is as long as i turn it right back on it should be ok.
or is it because mine's 07?

I've had two RX-8s, both 2005, and have never flooded either one.
And, just to add since it pertains to a related rotary myth, I used the first one through 3 Canadian winters. Never failed to start, even on the coldest mornings.
