a little above normal. I just picked her up on Saturday. Is this okay? Should the oil gauge be dead on in the middle? Thanks guys.

Mine always reads a few ticks to the right. Doesn't seem to vary whether the oil level is topped off or near the "low "mark on the dipstick.

Ehhh.... I have heard that the oil gauge is a on/off thing... the absolute value is not important. Better check with the service guy at the dealer though. Probably start with a call.

If more concern - I guess the oil temp and pressure gauge from Defi is for you. Sit where the sat nav is.

The oil pressure gauge is nothing more than an on/off pressure switch (for an idiot light) connected to an analog gauge. Mazda got tired of hearing complaints about where the needle was suppose to be at during normal operation. It will (should) sit at that same position regardless of the actual pressure.

Just do a search and you will find numerous posts on this subject, especialy in the tech forum.

There is no reason to call Mazda, unless you want to complain. The needle sitting a few ticks to the right of center is normal. As stated before, this is not a pressure GUAGE. It is simply on or off. I personally hate that. The oil pressure gauge in my 81 RX7 was a real guage. The pressure would vary depending on RPM and how warm the engine was. I can't believe Mazda stuck us with basically an idiot light.

Strange they would go from a pressure gauge to a simple on off one.

My car has a pressure gauge normal pressure is 60-100.
But I can see why they left it out. Being as it is constantly moving I could see alot of people going to mazda saying something is wrong with their oil pressure when it is actually withing tollerance.

Correction: New Miatas have the "dumb" gauge. Old Miatas had a real gauge.
