FYI, 295 will likely be your primary route for daily driving, and just north of Bolling on 295 is the longest lasting semi-permanent DC speed trap camera. It is almost always a van or cop car just sitting there running the equipment, but sometimes a cart, and 99% of the time it is both northbound and southbound.

295 only barely slices through DC, but they rack up alot of money on it. Speed limit is 50, even though it should be higher.

At the A mark here generally.

D.C. Area traffic sucks.....

I commuted up 95 North from Dumfries to get to Tysons. If I got on the road after 5:45am I was screwed. Loved getting on the road at 5am-ish, rolling into work at 6am and sleeping in the car till 7. Did that for a year and wanted to die.

I knew I had to get out of the DC area when I was living in Columbia MD, working in Stirling VA, doing overnight from midnight to 8, and hitting nearly as much traffic at 11pm as I was at 8 am....and the 8 am traffic inbound on rt 7, then 495 over the american legion over to 95n when you are up all night...yeah, that is a winner right there. I am never moving back.

painters tape ftw!!!!!!!!!!!

I would even go a step further and put syran wrap on the windshield, it helps to clean off the bug residue fast, lift and peel

Ima do the painters tape...but not the saran wrap. The saran wrap i think would have the same effect of when they ship the cars in. The wind catches it and makes little baby lacerations on the paint. ive had a few cars i had to get that buffed out of.

And I probably wont take any of the 95, 295, whatever95...I'm plannin on leaving near waldorf and taking 228 to 210 =)

yeah painters tape is a must, make sure to cover to up to at least the mid way of the hood.
and im not sure if your familier with thin foam sheeting. its almost like a fabric of sorts. they have it at craft stores, i use that on the windshield. i can bear a rock chip in paint but a windshield is a PITA....

and goodluck in DC, i live in the hampton roads area and go to DC a couple times a month for work. just remember 95 by fredrickburg, traffic stops for no reason, and north of DC its the same during the high hours.

Alright Ya'll. I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for the advice. She looked pretty silly and I got a lot of questions from people wondering wtf I was doing, but it was a lifesaver!!!! I had a couple of chips/tears in the tape, but nothing on my car after 1600+ miles!!! It did kinda curl/come up in the rain a little, but after it dried, I just put it back down. Again, THANK YOU ALL!!!!

+1 RIWWP! I was born in N. VA outside of DC and I am NEVER going back. No reason to now, parents are in FL retired and brother is a lawyer with SEC and lives in Center City Philadelphia now. I go once or twice a yr to see friends.

I used to do the Woodbridge (next town up from Dumfries) to Braddock Rd then later Columbia MD and thats just a bad memory for me nowadays. The few thousand I might lose a year doesnt matter if the stress of bumper to bumper traffic for hours kills you first and you never get to spend it.

I took a federal job w/ DOD at an army electronic repair depot in the Poconos/ (NE PA) in 2005 after a 5 yr stint in central NJ (which wasnt bad traffic wise if you didnt have to goto NY city or N Jersey).

I now get on the hwy 2 miles from my house, set my cruise control on 79mph and dont turn it off until I get off my work exit which dumps right into the base (30 minutes). Life is so good now, aside from being born around DC, I dont see why I did that for so long. There is a better life elsewhere.
