motor

Can I put a 07 motor and put it in my 04 rx8. The reason I'm asking is because I heard the 2007 models and up have a fewer chance of breaking down.

The chances for s1 engines don't depend on model year but on the ecu's firmware.
Mazda modified some maps to avoid running with too little housing lubrication and some other stuff in 2006\7.

1. No cylinders mate, rotors.
2. If you're going to all the trouble of putting in an 07 engine, wouldn't working on the one you currently have make much more financial sense to get that one reliable? Seems like a lot of effort and money for something that could be easily sorted out.

Do you have an automatic or a manual transmission? That is the question you haven't answered.

2004 through 2008 manual transmissions all have compatible motors with each other
2004 through 2005 automatic transmissions all have compatible motors with each other
2006 through 2008 automatic transmissions all have compatible motors with each other

I'd also recommend that you verify that your 2nd rotor is indeed losing compression through a compression test at a dealer. ALL low compression symptoms are shared with at least 1 other problem. Most of our common problems share most of their symptoms.

Don't replace an engine if you only need to replace a coil...

got my 04,8, back with new ( reman) engine. i was conserend about the seals going bad like the first one. but the mech. told me that the new seals are diffrent & should last much longer. i told him my rx-7 had 177,000 miles on her when i sadly had to sell it. i was saven up money for front end parts, the tags expired. the car was sitting in my driveway, a cop knocked on my door & said i had 2 weeks to fix it or thay would tow it! . i just got a divorce & money was tight, + iam a fisherman i was leaven the next day for about 3 weeks. i had to sell it that day, $200. i served my country & thats the thanks i get! got to love our goverment! ( when i said fix it i ment the tags & insurence )

Why did you have to move it if it was in your driveway?
