mixing oil???

I know mixing oil is not recomended, but I am not sure what oil the dealer that I bought the Car from used and I was wanting to add some oil because mine is getting a little low and I am still 1000 miles aways from oil change mark. I change mine every 3000.(I have it changed) Should I just tell my mechanic about this or what harm will be caused?

It'll be fine - you can mix any brand of 5w-20 with any other.

I had the same problem as you when i bought the car. The previous owner said he used 5w20. But he also said he used non synthetic Mobil 1 oil (not trying to make this into a synthetic vs non synthetic oil thread here). But i went to buy Mobil 1 and mobil IS in fact synthetic so that kind of threw me off a bit.

In general, any petroleum product will mix with any other and you get a hybrid. Mixing 5w20 with 5w30 50/50 basically gives you 5w25. Its not anything worth worrying over

Oil stays in the cooler(s) anyway so they mix when you change up. 5-20 is weak sauce anyway get some good stuff for it.
