might trade my 03 gt for a 04 RX8

You'll get bored of the 8 even faster...
Mustang GT = Torque and Powah!
RX-8 = No Torque, no Power, but superb handling.
Coming from a Mustang GT, you'll probably think that the 8 is the slowest moving object in the entire universe after you drive one. Trust me, I know.

Try doing that in those high hp/torque boats. Anytime I open her up on a nice open drive it reminds me of the beauty of this machine not to mention she gets A LOT of compliments on her looks alone. Whenever I drive it down the Vegas Strip people roll there windows and tell me what a nice car I have pretty nice considering all the Lambos and other exotics out here.

Really, the truth is that the difference between the 8 and stang is torque and bhp.
When you take it to the street, a stock Stang is not that much faster to 60 than the 8, even with gobs more torque.
Some people will claim a 1 second differential to 60 is the be all and end all of purpose. I think it's marginal, and given the intensely better ride and handling of the 8, more than compensated for.
And I LIKE Mustangs.
The caveat to this, of course, is that you can mod the Mustang, while not so much with the 8. So you better make sure the stock 8 is acceptable to you in stock form.

0-60 is possibly the worst indicator of a car's straightline speed, I don't know why so many people get so hung up on it except for the magazine tests and promo ads. 0-60 is so dependent on tires and road conditions, type of tires, etc. You can get a nasty 0-60 time (lot of AWD cars) and still be relatively slow in the 1/4 and 1/8, and on the highway. A better indicator certainly is 1/4 mile trap speed (which still isn't perfect), as the only real factor that could distort that is gearing/tire size.

Even in the twisties? To me it feels like those fast Go-carts like the ones at SpeedZone.

only if you go FI will you "wake" the car up. Otherwise you will spend a lot of money on a minimal gain. Trust me on that one.
