Question Might be buying one but need opinions...

I plan on going to check out this RX8 tomorrow but would appreciate any input from experienced RX8 owners on what I might want to look for good/bad when I get there. Also, what do you think about the price and mileage? I'm going to be trading in a vehicle hoping to get maybe $2k for it. here is the link. Any input will be appreciated. thanks.

Get the Manual tranny
Unless there is something major stopping your left leg from working, get the manual.

Welcome. I'd go for a 6spd if all possible or perhaps shoot for an '06 and up if you want auto. The auto 04's appear to have more problems than the others. In the pre '06 RX-8's the auto's are significantly reduced in power (and performance) and have a lower redline compared to the 6spd. You will also get the 18" wheels w/ these.

Yah, no manual, it's for my wife....I want her to get the manual but it's probably not a good idea with the traffic she puts up with on a daily basis and she's a wuss.

Where are you located? I ask because that is a base model in disguise, so it has no DSC, I wouldn't put a girl in base model in my climate(some snow, lots of rain).

Also I'd say that's at least $2k too much.

Of all the things I've read on this forum related to engine problems, replacements, issues most of the time it seems to come back to an Auto '04's (especially in hot climates and especially the ones that are babied as the rotary must be exercised regularly). A little digging on this site and you will see the same thing. Check the link below for some examples. However, several TSB's have been released to deal w/ the issues of the early ones and all RX-8's have powertrain warranty extended to 100k miles. I would get a history report on the car to see exactly what has been done to it and how its been serviced at the least.

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ne+replacement

DSC is Dynamic Stability Control which was included with Traction Control on the 8 and was standard on certain trims and optional on others. The car you are looking at it does not have it (the button would be to the left of the steering wheel w/ a DSC on it).

The car could be flawless but based on issues w/ early auto RX-8's, I would want to know the full service history,if it still has the original engine, and or if any of the critical Technical Service Bullitens have been performed on it. IMO it seems overpriced for a base model. Any experience w/ rotary powered cars if you don't mind me asking? Are you guys seeking an RX-8 specifically?

Whats with those seats... it looks like they only put half the red leather on the actual seat bottom.

Hmmmmmmm.......FLOOD DAMAGE?

Picture #10, the mesh speaker housing, looks like it may have water marks.

Pic #17, the display cluster, has what looks like water droplets stains..........

And most puzzling of all is pic #18 which is the dash/radio/AC display which seems to have water drop marks on it.

Or is it my overreactive imagination?

Doubtful its water damage. Those water droplet marks are typical of armor all being sprayed, and speaker housing marks are typical foot marks. Carfax it, it will show if flooded.

And if I am not mistaken...............don't all RX8's, including the sport trim, have the aluminum pedals?

And wouldn't the leather package also have leather sterring wheel?

And why in the hell would the dealer advertise that as cloth seats when obviously it is leather???

Well, that is two reasons to be suspicious of buying this car:

#1 the owner didn't even take care of it well enough to use a protectant without getting it everywhere,

and,

#2 the owner used armour all = crap.
