Last time I was at the dealer, I told them about the sliding back and forth and it would not lock in the rear position with the cupholders exposed, they "fixed" it by replacing the console lid, still slides back and forth...especially during WOT or hard braking.

Same problem here, the console lid is very week. 3 weeks old and its broken already. Must comment on the white 8, its different, we dont have that color as an option in SA.

No problems yet, but the lid is obviously fragile and I've walked on eggs to keep from leaning on it or abusing it, and have asked passengers to be careful. It's a nifty apperatus on the whole and works very smoothly, but the durability is very suspect.

Ditto..Mine is broken also. Just haven't really thought much about it. I think it broke about a month after I got it. I also found the black "slider things" but did not know where they went. I forget to tell them about it when I get oil changes. Anyway...I am still diggin' my 8.

I broke my front clip after having the car for like 2 weeks. Then over the course of the next year both of the slider clips have broken. Haven't gotten that replaced though, cause I pieced it back together. Certainly will get it done at some point though. that console is just a nightmare pos.

I had both of the side clips break in the first two weeks as well. The dealership replaced the entire lid for me when that happend. The plastic guides don't work very well but keeping too many items in the "secret compartment" seemed to add to the problem. Mine wasn't full but while driving the items shifted and my lid was stuck closed. Glad I didn't have anything in there I didn't want the dealership to see... :D

LOL, this seems to be a popular topic lately

Just wanted to add a ME TOO! to the thread. The small plastic clip which fits over the slider tab on the door keeps falling off mine. I need a new clip.

But it sounds like a couple of issues are being discussed. I don't have any problems with the button... just with the one slider clip.

What kinda sucks is without that plastic clip, the metal(?) tab in the door dug into the console plastic a little, gouging it slightly. Dang it.

Not even sure when mine broke. I just got into the car one day and noticed that it was broken. I'm pretty sure it was my wife, or the gremlins.

SH*T, maybe my wife is a gremlin!!

I've babied my cupholder lid since I got the car two months ago, thanks to reading about its vulnerability here.

No problems so far (knocks on wooden head).

There is good news though...

Mazda called ME yesterday too. They told me when the cupholder lid TSB comes out they will also mod the cupholder itself. It will hold an extra 5 mpg!!!!!!!!!!!

:D :D :D

Yeah, but when you measure it, it's actually only 4.75 mpg :D. The console lid in my car slides forward everytime I braked. I do hope that they come out with a more robust lid.

Mine broke the 3rd day I got the car. They have been broken since. Screw it, I have better things to do than waste a whole day getting a $.75 clip replaced every month.

Cheap *** crap!

This is obviously a problem- maybe we should find a contact at mazda and write to them about the issue?

It's covered under warranty so just take it in to the dealer.
