That is full of crap. You should complain and call the Mazda headquarters and let them know about your situation, good luck.

Why not order the parts from metromotorparts.com or onlinemazdaparts.com? You can get a short engine for ~$1300, though I'm not sure what else you would need since the short engine part doesn't have an illustration on it...anyone? I was thinking of doing this and sending to one of the engine builders, mazmart, BDC etc, to get a new engine.

A Mazda reman "short block" runs about $1900.00 + shipping and is only warrantied if installed by a dealer. And you could buy a reman and send it to a builder but it is still not a new motor and would be kind of a waste. It would be better to get new housings and have your engine rebuilt by a builder.

On both the metromotorparts and onlinemazdaparts sites they list manual "short engine" in the new parts for $1300-1500 and automatic "short engine" for $4000-4200 respectively. I think you can still piece together a new engine even if you can't buy a complete one. Was just wondering what else you would need to make a complete engine, but got the answer in another thread.

Well, it's wrong. Why would a lower power auto engine be twice as much? Also remember there is typically a core charge as well.

The only reason I can think of that would make the 4-port auto more is it's rareity. It was only made for 2 years.
That's just me guessing though.

Just to put this ridiculousness to rest I called Metro and they list both motors but cannot get either, there is no availability. The price listing on the Manual 6 port is correct (no surprise seems about average), the price on the auto is a mistake (Duh).

Also the guy at metro Mazda insisted on telling me, "it's a short block without heads". I explained that this is a rotary engine and there are no heads and he just said, "ok". If a mazda parts counter guy does not know that a rotary has no heads then that is pretty damn scary.

Dude, just call your local dealer. Buying Mazda reman is a bad idea in my opinion. They are not known to be super reliable and unless you have a Mazda dealer install it you get no warranty. Just get your engine rebuilt by a qualified builder.
