Another issue I’ve stumbled Upon, which seems to be unique to my situation; my insurance normally ranges from $40 to $90 on average. With this car, I’m at $190/month and I’ve been quoted as high as 280/month.. for Regular Basic Pip coverage. I guess because it’s written as a sports coupe 300hp and not a 4 door sedan 1.3L like it should be.

I’ll try to upload a POV video “ride along” in the next day or so. I absolutely love driving it. The handling is supreme and I’m always slowing down for traffic.

The step I’m on now is the educational/brainstorming phase. I’ll locate some reading material so I can gain a foundational knowledge of EV systems. Once I’ve done that then step two will be to start sourcing all the components for the build. My guess is that getting an RX8 shell for a great price will be the easiest part of the project. I’ll share what I learn with you if you’d like. Your mindset and mine seem very similar as far as driving a car that performs at a high level but doesn’t require that you spend large amounts of money unnecessarily. I want one RX8 as my daily driver and the 2nd RX8 will be gutted for the EV project.

EV market is still in its infancy, so it’s expensive to get a real-deal setup. You’re looking around 10-20k for a proper setup and even then your range is going to be painstakingly difficult to compare to a gas engine, but for a race car, you have better chances of success. There’s some guys on YouTube that put EV motor in a gutted RX7 and he was flying (1/4 mile)

Oh I was thinking somewhere around $10K for the whole thing but if it would be closer to $15K or $20K then I have no desire to spend that kind of money right now and maybe ever. I expected the low gas mileage but now I need to solve the low-end torque issue on mine. I have a lightened flywheel on it and I get that there's less rotating mass compared to a heavier flywheel but 1st gear is really sad right now haha. 2nd and 3rd pull really strong all the way up to 90mph but 1st is like a gear I just try to get out of as quickly as possible. Even 1st at 8K+ rpms isn't moving the car hardly at all lol. 1st honestly feels like I accidentally put the car in neutral and then hit the gas.

So cool to see it brought back. I’m hoping to do that more in the coming years.

If there's not some other issue and it's your feeling that the car won't move in 1st due to low end torque, there's the tried route of going to 17 inch light wheels and tires and a shorter 4.77 final drive.

Nice, I like it. Thanks for sharing this information with us. I was actually searching for a site online where I can find my answer. I want to know is edubirdie legit or not and when I was searching for it online, I am glad I found your post as well. I would love to hear from you on this discussion.
