Question lower torque??

Der RENESIS-Motor ist in zwei Versionen erhältlich: Hochleistungsmodell (177 kW (240PS) mit 211 Nm bei 5500 U/min) und Standardleistungsmotor (141 kW (192 PS) mit 220 Nm bei 5000 U/min)

readet in the german mazda page.

high power (177 kW (240PS) mit 211 Nm bei 5500 U/min)

standart (141 kW (192 PS) mit 220 Nm bei 5000 U/min)

high power with lower torque????? i hope... its a write mistake.

The lower power version was tuned for better low end torque and is missing the intake path for high rpms.

The high power version may be understating the torque and power at the highest rpms so that the torque peak is published at 5500 tpms rather than 7500.

don't forget how power is defined... it's the the amount of force/time... so, in American math, it's lb./ft * RPM / 5252
so, the torque could still be diminishing from 5500 rpm, but if the rate at which it deminishes is >-1, the power curve would still have a positive slope...

BUT, for the RENESIS, we've already seen some supposed torque curves for the high-power version, which are really, really really REALLY flat, and Mazda may just be fudging the torque numbers a little bit in the middle of the torque curve, only so that people won't be so distraught with a peak at 7500 rpm, even if (just for arguement's sake) 99.8% of it could be found at 7000, and 94.2% could be found at 5000, and 89.98% could be found at only 3200 rpm (which would be 143 lb/ft of torque...)... now, these numbers aren't real, but it's just to illustrate the point: if you KNOW that the curve is flat, the peak number is really only a reference number... but, American car mags just don't give a @#$% and rely simply on the peak number (and would dub it "disappointing"... idiots)

thus, for marketing's sake, Mazda screwed with the numbers (had a bit of "acceptable error" in the data sampling) so the peak was right in the middle of the RPM band, just like any good American muscle motor (ie, peak at 2500 rpm with a redline of 5500 rpm, or something like this)
