Looking into RX-8

Hi All,

I am a current S2000 owner (for 3 + years) and I absolutely love my S2000. However, my wife and I are about to have our first child and the S2000 just does not work as any sort of family car.

I have driven the RX-8 a few months ago. It does not feel as much as a true sports car as the S2k IMO. However, it seems like a good compromise between a car you can have more than 2 people in and still have the 9k redline and still a light car.

I am going to the local Mazda dealer this morning and see if we can work out a deal. I have seen a lot of people have gotten the car for MSRP which is my goal.

I am looking for the 6 speed manual base model. I don't care about all the extra bells and Whistles. I am hoping to get the car for under 27k.

If anyone has any advice (in case I get frustrated with my local mazda dealer) then please feel free to pass it on.

Hopefully, I will be a member of the RX-8 club soon.

my advice would be to go to edmunds.com and get a TMV price for the car you want and take it to the dealer with you. See if they can match or better it. If not, be prepared to walk away. You can find a dealer somewhere that will match it.

and the 8 is a great car for kids. rear facing car seats will fit and so will boosters etc. THe back seat had latch anchors making it even easier.

good luck!

Do not settle on any price higher than invoice. You can get the invoice price from edmunds.com as mentioned above. Shop around til you find the best price, and then negotiate with everyone you've talked to once you get that best price.

MSRP.......NO WAY. I'm averaging $300-500 below invoice. Mazda is offering a $3500 incentive for using there leasing program. So lease it and refinance the next day, done deal......4000 under invoice................ :D

Congrats on your first child! I picked up my base 6MT for slightly below invoice in April.

Yup yup congrats on your 1st child!
I got my auto transmission full option RX-8 for 29000 .. without tax...
If you live in NJ or east coast area, do not go buy at East Coast Auto Mall...
Their service is terrible and the salesmen treat you like **** after you sign the paper... worst of all... they go play with the finance contract section to raise the price when u r not paying attention..

I did get a red manual with the grand touring package, the red/black leather seats and the works.

I personally think the car needs forced induction or variable timing in order to give it more of a boost. It does not feel like a 239hp car to me.

However, it is a nice car and full of creature comforts, drives smoothly, has nice back seats, and the high redline which I have grown fond of.

I am actually leasing the car for three years and managed to get it under the MSRP by 1500 because it had 1500 miles on it. I normally don't go this route but I was trying to save money and am rolling the dice that the car was not abused. It was driven by the owner of a chain who is in his 60s so I don't picture him dirivng 120 everywhere.

Anyways, I am glad to be part of the club.
