Exclamation Long Road Trip

Im thinking about attempting the drive from Los Angeles to Dallas.... and back, next week. Has anyone taken there 8 on a long trip, from where to where, and how did it fare???

Im rolling up to 60k so im a lil worried on making the trip through a bunch of nothing.

Ive done ~5hour drive a few times... no issues. The center console got hot and it wasnt super comfy compared to a big car. As long as the car is in good shape, I dont think you'll have an issue

Enjoy the drive!

~6500mi in 16 days - route 66, Area51, mountains, Grand Canyon, Pacific Coast HWY, etc...all comfy and no issues. If you're already at 60K without issues I wouldn't worry. Just do your maint checks before heading out and enjoy the ride

Well bring some oil check everything before you go (tires/engine fluids), consider any maintainance that will be due along the route and have it done prior also. I did Virginia to Ohio and back but it was in a 09 with 1k miles, the highway miles should keep it from burning the oil though, its the high traffic/city driving thats bad on it. Might want to get a compression test done to be safe if you can imo, if you haven't recently atleast.

I bought mine off ebay and Had to drive from Lansing, MI to Dallas, TX to get it back. Can't say that I had any problems during the trip other than my poor driving

Ive been to texas twice this year already once just last week. thats a 12 hour drive for my rx8 i have 70k now but only 10k on new motor. the first trip my fuel pump went out, i see alot of fuel pumps going out around 60 70k miles. the last trip new fuel pump and everything went smoothe.

1. bring extra oil
2. check your ignition and plugs
3. Im sure youll be fine ide, any car you have a possibility of braking down.

good luck

2 yrs ago, I drove from Chicago to Daytona for the 24 Hrs race non-stop (except for gas). No issues. The drive was comfortable. I would suggest you listen to talk radio or an audio book if you start getting tired. It wakes up the mind. Music helps put you to sleep. There's a reason truckers listen to "Coast to Coast AM".

Heh I wish it was only an oil change. I had a scheduled maintenance stop to make in southern Utah. It’s fun trying to find a decent shop to take it to using a cell phone web browser. I can see someone looking at my maint log now…bought in Chicago, lives in Iowa, 15K maint in Utah 18K oil change in Wyoming…WTF?!

I have done the drive from Daytona Beach to Chicago a couple of times. I have also done Oklahoma to Chicago a couple of times with no issues. Extra oil is a must and make sure it is easily accessible. I had to pull a bunch of stuff out of my trunk to get to my oil once.

I would never do that.

Your car will blow up and you end up buying a Chrysler!

Just did 1,000 miles in two days this past weekend, driving to my sister's in Georgia. Car not only did "fine", but I got my best mileage ever on a road-trip... 23.4 mpg (did this on two full tanks, going a little slower than the other tanks), w/ cruise control set on 80, and the A/C going the whole time. That's even after filling up at a station that claimed minimum 10% Ethanol, so I was EXTREMELY impressed w/ my 8 this weekend.

That being said... I'm going to break down and buy a pad for my right knee; resting against the console area for that long starts to annoy. I've done 4 trips to Georgia, and one across Virginia, and I'm finally going to bite the bullet before this summer's trip to Hilton Head... It's just too uncomfortable after about 5 hours of driving.

I have a 04 MT GT. I have taken two 3,0000 mile round trips. Milw Wi to Yellowstone park. Milw Wi to Mertle beach up through Atlanta and back home. Roadtrips are so much fun in the RX8. I had no problems, the ride was comfy, and I never got bored or tired driving it mile after mile. First car I owned I can say that about. Half the fun is getting there when driving an RX8.

I rode from Lansing Mi to Sacramento Ca with all my belongings on a crotch rocket and you are wondering about a car, psh. All I have to say is HIGH winds are actually HIGH WINDS! Oh and drive it like you stole it, cuz there be some really really boring areas. Oh oh oh and that sign that you keep seeing for 15 miles about the GREAT FOOD and GAS! Get your gas there and go. It's a DQ with the worst food ever and you'll end up sick as hell and out $20. You'll know what I mean when you see it.

Don't worry about it dawg. I took my 8 from the springs to all over CA and back. Ended up being 3-4k mile range total. I just changed my oil before I left, changed it when I got back. And checked it multiple times on the trip of course. I had more miles then you, aswell. You should be fine.
