Had a walker in there once when my wife had a broken leg. Speaking of broken legs, if you have a pax with a big leg cast, sit 'em in the rear seat and they can prop their leg up on the center console. It's very comfortable and medically correct, and won't interfere with your shifting if they're not beanpoles. I put a pillow there to cushion her leg.
So what else of significance have y'all been able to carry around in an '8?

Wonder how many other true sports cars can do that?

My husband and I just drove to Niagara for a four day vacation. We packed a normal-sized suitcase each, our laptop, a digital camera in a big case, various small bags of stuff, and a duffle bag in the back of the car(on top of the normal stuff I always carry back there like my toolkit, oil, paper towels, gym stuff, etc). On the way back, we stopped and picked up my sister in Rochester, adding another suitcase and backpack, AND all the bags of stuff we bought in Niagara. Everything fit with room to spare, and my sister had no problem in the back seat behind my husband the entire 9-hour drive. It's really unbelievable how much you can put in this car.

Sorry if this was said already, but I didn't see it anywhere in the thread and I just noticed it myself -
The auto-dimming mirror is not only self-adjusting and proportional to the amount of glare, but it also disables entirely when you put the car in reverse so that you don't miss anything out the rear window as you go back.
I saw this in the shop manual before I noticed it in reality and I was dumbfounded by the ingenious nature of such an feature.

Sounds like a fun trip. If you measured the mileage, what did you get? Just curious, how tall are your husband and sister since the seating worked out so well?

My 13 - 14 MPG is one of the "little things" I am not so thankful for...
My mileage is actually getting worse as I drive the car more, regardless of the type of driving (highway vs. city). I've never gotten more than 15 MPG - the Baltimore and DC beltways included.

wild read folks.. great work!
for me there's a single top of the list "thing I like about the rx8":
Driving the bloody thing!
I can't ever recall having a car that had me wanting ( post flight clearance from the wife ) to get out of the house at 11:30 PM most nights and just dive for an hour or two!
****, you'd have to watch the entire mexican air force crash land into a petrolium plant to match the wholy **** factor you get driving this car!
Yea, all the gizmos, the six stacker in console cd player, bose speakers, finger button controls, etc etc - thats all just fine and dandy..
But when you actually "drive" this puppy - sheeeit!

My biggest concern when I bought the car was if I could pack 2 weeks worth of "stuff" into the car to go on deployment, especially without tearing up the interior or trunk. Well I did. (1) medium size cooler full of refridge/frozen food, (1) action packer full of dry goods, (1) parachute bag with sleeping bag, clothes and uniforms, helmet bag and computer backpack.
I placed an old comforter in the back seat, the cooler and action packer fit in each seat nicely with the blanket wrapped around them, the parachute bag in the front passenger seat and rest in the trunk. Now I'm really glad I didn't get the 350Z!

I had some friends visiting last week. To my utter amazement, in addition to a few attache cases and a purse or two, we fit a collapsing wheelchair into the trunk. Then took off with a driver and three passengers.

Almost everything has been posted, but I'll add my redundant good points:
The superb LSD diff....man...just perfect for staying sideways.
Love the sound and power of this car. I ran full throttle shifting at 6000RPM and still, it was very fast.
I like the high location of the fuel filler. Almost like a race car...haha
I love the flip out quarter windows.
I love how there's just one fluid resovoir for both the clutch and brake master cylinder.
I love how the 6speed has more power than the auto....sorry auto guys.
I like how my black car makes all the flat black unpainted surfaces blend in.
There's so much more but all you guys have it covered.

Until a leak in your clutch slave cylinder causes your brakes to fail! I had this happen to my brand new (650 miles) BMW 318i on the autobahn in Germany. The slave cylinder to the clutch had a pin hole leak and drained the shared reservoir. Almost got me killed!
Had to use the emergencey brake for its intended purpose for the first and so far only time!

I'm sorely tempted to raise the BS flag on this, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Enough already about the reservoir. Point made.
Here's a whole nuther one: I was driving last night and heard a faint "beep beep beep." Had to check cell phone and Palm Pilot, but finally realized it was the car beeping at me to tell me tire pressure was low. This is the first time I've gotten that indication. The warning light also lit, but it's cool to get a beep as well.
I pulled over and all four tires were at about 28 psi. Aggravating because I just had servicing done at Mazda, but I topped them off and the warning indicator went out. Way cool.
