The recent Road and Track article on the Aston Martin Rapide compares the $200K Aston to the RX8 saying "like the RX8 if you never look in the rear view mirror you'd never know you weren't driving a 2 seat machine."

Noticed this the other day, not sure if it's been mentioned before or not. The arcs of the hood and the trunk (where they meet the cabin) allow you to easily see where you're going with either in the up position. If I recall correctly, you can even use the rearview mirror with the trunk up.

I love how that space around the base of the shift boot holds all of my muffin crumbs effortlessly.

 

How did you figure that out? lol. What are you doing driving around with the hood open?

I've done it plenty driving my 8 from my paddock area the ~100 yards over to tech for autocross. Doesn't take long to noticed something like this under those conditions.

 

Never drove with the hood up, but I will admit to driving with the truck up once on the way home from work. The HVAC unit was in the shop being fixed, it felt like 100 degrees outside with the humidity, and felt like 120 or so in the cabin. So as I'm cruising along the back roads on the way home, I couldn't help but think I'd forgotten to do something, but the heat drove whatever it was from my mind. As I checked my rear view mirror, I noticed the rear spoiler seemed to be taking up more of the view than usual. I could see above the "spoiler", but not below it. "What happened to the arch of the spoiler?" After trying to figure it out for a minute or two, the realization hit me like a truck hitting a bug. I had just hit a stretch of straight road and was now going around slightly above 30. As my foot was about to lift off the gas and go to the brake so I could stop and remedy the situation, the moving air pushed the truck down, locking it. I then thanked my 8 and drove home.

Sorry for the long story, I was kinda bored.

SHORT VERSION: Drive over 30, the trunk should close.

On my way home i saw a guy on a maserati driving really fast just showing off and of course everyone was looking at him and at his car so i decided to show that guy how my baby sounds so i down shifted from 6th to 3rd and everyone around me and they guy in the maserati turned and see my baby reving like crazy after that the guy slowed down and stopped showing off! i lovee my 8 lol

 

Gross!! I don't eat in my car. That makes it virtually no effort to clean.

6 years of ownership and I only just noticed yesterday that there a lights under the side mirrors .....

 

You Kiwis get them stock or just have the slots for the lights?

Quirky thing. The AC Compressor running when windscreen/footwell blend is on. I've owned many cars, foreign and domestic, and I have never had a car that did that before.

Sure, it used the AC when windscreen only/defrost was on, but in blend mode? I had no idea!

Saved myself about 4 or 5MPG by not using the blend mode anymore.

 

I havent red the whole thread so i dont know if this has been mentioned, but i love dimming the lights at night so all the readouts are red.. i think it looks so tight

 

If you get an Rx8 does it wash dishes and watch the kids? I heard the super rx9 will. But no, Rx8'ss are bad*ss but they are kinda ugly, get a good color.

Just about everything in this thread is included on my list. I had to skim a few pages. I'm not sure if this is buried in here somewhere but:

The way the muffin-crumb-boot of my shifter also doubles as a finger warmer once I get the transmission through a couple gears.

The way a u-turn on a tight street becomes a quick DSC button push and a little extra throttle.

The way shifting is so smooth I'm not afraid to drive it in the snow (with the right tires).

...and everything else I don't want to hammer to death.
