New owner here, picked it up saturday. What I love? The beeping sound of locking and unlocking the doors. It sounds so hi-tech and Transformer-ish. I know, I know, pics or it didn't happen. As soon as I clear a foot of snow off of it, I'm gonna get some.
My luck I pick up my first sports car and the next day we get over a foot of snow. Yeesh.

It was thanx to this discussion that i made the best decision in a long time. i bought an 04 rx8, with 60 000km mileage. I had read a lot of negative stuff, but you guys set the record straight with "the little things".

I don't think I can add anything new to the mix [I thought it was funny about the windows being so fast because I noticed that too!!!!].
I'll just say that I like in no real order:
The smooth but true sports car ride and grip.
The looks.
The overall size [not too long or too tall].
The speed [It's fast enough for me on the top end and 0 to ever speed I go!].
The sound of the Rotary.... Let's just say the Rotary engine overall.
The clutch feel and 6 speed manual shifter.
The brakes.
The lightweight-ness of the car overall.
The steering [It goes right where I want it without feeling vague].
The smaller turning circle [Sounds crazy but my Mazda 6 had a BIG A@@ turning circle].
The gas cap is on the driver's side!!!
The 2 exhaust tips [I guess that's under looks]
And
2 seat sports car goodness with emergency rear seating for the small or desperate.

Ya my 03' mazda 6 had a HORRIBLE turning radius. However it was a confidence-inspiring fwd sedan IMO. I would go around said exit going 60-70mph in the 6 where I would feel ok about going around the same exit at 70-80mph in the 8..theres a big difference but honestly the 6s handling is stellar for what it is imo..

I love the stability of the 8 in heavy rain. We just had what seemed like multiple inches in the matter of an hour. Needless to say, there was at least 3-4 inches (for real..) on the entire surface of a ~850 foot paved road I work on. I flew through the side channels of water (it got a ton of water) going 60 mph+ spraying water way over the car and windows and yet the traction control didn't even flash and it felt perfect not twitchy in any way.

I like this "little thing"....
Whenever I garage my car (it is a sealed one), I let her idle for about 20 seconds, hope out of the car, then turn the key off and out....I like all the shutting OFF noises that come from under the hood...there is a sequence of at least 4 tasks or checks the car (PCM) performs as a shutdown...LAME I know....
I read in the "2009 RX-8 Service Highlights" that according to temps, the PCM turns on the Electronic Metering Oil Pumps and dribbles some engine oil inside the rotor housing for next time start up...don't know if this is true or not, could be part of all the shutdown noises??

How about opening the moonroof about 2-3 inches. At that position the air deflector is not fully open and the moonroof is at the perfect angle to cause a rush of air to flow by your head.

This car is dangerous!
I was driving on the highway on a sunny day, and I noticed how reflective my hood accent was. Unfortunately, I have the personality of a magpie, so I was constantly distracted by the prettiness!
