when i test drove one, i was making a right turn on to the freeway onramp in 2nd gear.. my wife and my friend were in the back seat and the salesman was in the passenger seat.. i accelerated normally till about 5k then i punched it.. right at that moment my wife and my friend were leaning forward, my friend was taking the lid off some tic tacs and the salesman was yapping about the car.. the car took off like a scalded cat, my wife and my friend got pinned to the back seat, they both let a yelp, tic tacs flying everywhere, and the salesman immediately shut up and held on for dear life and his eyes were really big.. i redlined it, hit third, the tires chirped and we kept rushing forward.. i backed off at around 80.. i don't think i'm telling the story right, it was one of those moments where you had to be there.. i didn't end up buying that particular 8.. also one of my favorite thing about the 8 is that everytime i look at her, she's dead sexy, from any angle.. it's the driving equivalent of dating (insert your favorite model/actress/whoever)..

The Little Things To Me Are:

I can take friends to dinner, not just a friend.

I can SAFELY scare the living hell out of anyone in the passenger seat when I start carving up the road. Yeah, you can terrify people with torque. But, in my experience, passengers find accelerating into a 90 degree turn even scarier.

The 8 will love you good if you push it to its limits and treat it a little rough.

The stick purrs in your hand.

The backseats accommodate my 6’2” brother without him bitching up a storm, plus he can open a window back there.

Random thumbs up from fellow driving enthusiasts. A cool guy in a SL500 gave me a wave a couple of days ago.

When I play a racing game with a friend, I can often choose my car from the list of playable vehicles. I never got to drive my previous cars in a video game.

There are very few 8’s on the road compared to other sports cars. To some folks this is a bad thing, but I like not seeing my car facing me at every other intersection.

People who know nothing about cars think you are rich and probably own your own private island. (They will then cut you off in traffic. Take it as a compliment.)

Even with a 1000 watt amp and two boxed corner tens, I can fit in enough restroom supplies (huge boxes of t.p., roll towels, and other various cleaning supplies) to supply 6 commercial/retail bathrooms for a month. I don’t have kids, but I need the backseats to haul toilet paper. I am awesome!

The 8 is the best daily driver among sports cars today. This is a fact. Don’t argue. It’s a fact.

That most of the negative things you read about the 8 in this forum and on the net seem vastly exaggerated. I understand there are unlucky people whose engines have needed to be replaced, and people who suck at researching the mpg of their vehicle before they frickin’ purchase it, but overall, I must say. this car is exactly what I wanted. I own an ‘04 manual sunlight silver and if I were to believe the net, I am driving a stick of dynamite ready to explode at any moment. Whatever. This car, at 40,000 miles and some heavy driving, has been a dream.

Having a place like rx8club.com where I can post how amazing I think the 8 is without everyone around me thinking I am a lunatic for loving my car and its engine. Plus, I found my car through this site….Thanks!

I love the car, my addiction to driving it reminds me of the first time I got hooked on motocross. It feels like a 4 wheel motorcycle it handles so good. I never though a car could handle so good and then have such a great ride. I can't think off any vehicle that even comes close unless you get well over $50000. For the $16000 its one hell of a bargain.

I find myself not drinking nearly as much on weekends nights so I can go driving later. Nothing like a back mountain road at night in the rx, it always feels like its just trying to get you to push the gas pedal a little harder, it just wants to go.

Its cold this morning and I wanted to let the car warm up until the rpm's calm down. This morning i started it, then tried to lock the keys in the car. Later i would open it with a spare key. Last year i could watch my parking spot from my back door but this year I can't see the car from my door.

When you lock the car with the door open it automatically unlocks. Kind of annoying for this occasion but i know that i can never stupidly lock the door with the car on, I did that twice before, doah.

I had to lock it with the spare key manually.

The way it calls to me from beneath its Winter cover, reassuring that Spring will come again and we'll be reunited in driving bliss. Well, perhaps it doesn't actually call.....

Depends on where you live, but on my tiny "island" there are very few 8s and moreso none other are red. Almost everytime I stop for gas someone asks all the questions and I am more than happy to talk about her. Always compliments.

I love the fact that, like a 911 or a Corvette or a 350Z, it looks like an RX-8—and only an RX-8—and not like the other 93% of the cars on the road that have all the style and personality of a dishwasher.

At work I can see the parking lot where my car is...just seeing people checking out my car puts a smile on my face...They walk around it and stare at it up, down, sideways...

I've come to a conclusion (and fact) that cars are getting more and
more complicated with electronic gadgetry as people expect to be
pampered w/ easy conveniences and more comfort. And that's
what makes the 8 more endearing; it's simple and back to
basics while keeping the weight down.

Cars are getting heavier as a result, while people are getting lazier
or feel the need to show off the whiz bang of the electronics.
That's why BMW has built the 1-series, but as we've found out,
they are still overweight.

I hope Mazda keeps this philosophy of lightness and driving dynamics,
as I'm sure they do; just as the recent winning comparisons of the "gray
in the temples" 8 still prove. I don't have an 8 now, but am a new
convert and big fan after driving one and learning about them. And
overall, i feel the owners overall (from my brief observation) are more
mature than some other car crowds aka. 350z, VW, etc. I don't feel
the interiors are cheap, and all the plastics and interior needs to be
rubber coated that will eventually peel in order to make people feel
superior ala VW/Audi boys. Everything seems tied and put together well.

But I do realize expectation get higher, and people expect more hp and
higher fuel savings, but that should not overshadow the core of the product
and it's direction. Which has resulted in hp wars and bigger cars to
compensate.

Anyways, that's my little rant

Thanks Mazda for making cars for people who like to drive!

I give Mazda and the 8 props

Well what can be said that hasn't already! I've had it just on 16 months and I'll keep it for as long as I can. I love it more everytime I drive it.......
