I have a Yellow Protege5 and there is definitely truth to the bug thing. Weird, but it can be difficult to wash the car sometimes with the way it attracts bugs.

You can give a thumbs-up to a cabbie and make them laugh

I had a yellow demo while waiting for mine, and I loved it. It did seem like a cop magnet tho. The cabbie thumbs up story above was funny Nubo.

I think the bug problem is just that they show up more. I get a bunch on my black too, but they aren't as noticeable.

Oh, so true. Last Sunday, a Crapalier on 401 eastbound at Meadowvale blew a rear tire sending a chunk of debris straight for my left headlight. I saw it coming..no time or room to switch lanes.. braked but.. It missed thankfully, instead gouging the paint just below the hood 'line', [of course on the lower front section where I haven't yet had the 3M guard installed]. Curses!

Pete: thanks for the info.Is she cute?

My favorite moment: Freshly washed and detailed on a cool, sunny afternoon for a drive with the windows down and the roof open.

There isn't a day that goes by when people don't stop and stare. It looks like something from another planet.

Or a study hall book ...

but that's another thread.

And only in LY does it look like this.

I had a special "yellow" moment this past weekend. Driving down one of my favorite roads, I spied a bright saffron yellow Lotus Elise coming my way. This being the first Elise that I've seen on the road, I couldn't help but stare as we passed. Funny thing was the Elise's driver was staring back at my LY RX-8 just as intensely, and then he gave me the "shaka" sign. (That's sort of like Hawaii's version of a thumbs up greeting.)

Is it just me noticing because I own one, or are there more yellow cars around these days? In my parking garage for work there's a yellow Mustang, a Saturn, a VW beetle and a Ford pickup with a stupid looking wing spoiler (on a pickup?!)

On the good news front, Lighning Yellow is the nicest yellow I've seen. Very clear, not tinged with green (VW), orange (Mustang) or general garishness (Saturn).

Well, as much as I LOVE my LY RX-8, the best yellow is the yellow on a Lamborghini or a Ferrari, and Porsche's yellow is pretty sweet as well.

But, for the price of those, I could have at least one RX-8 for every day of the week and two each for Saturday and Sunday.

Ummm, perhaps it's not that these yellows are really better than LY, but it's the cars themselves that make their yellows look so good to you.

Yellow: Get this.

I told the dealer that I wanted a Yellow car, and he advises me that we do not want a "yellow car" because it does not look very good in person...he called it a mustard yellow. ???? Of course they did not have one on the lot so I made them get one from another dealer.

People love the color, strangers, neighbors will come up to me and compliment the yellow all day long.

In regards to:
1) Shocked reaction of conservative neighbor types. Need I say more?
Just slap a George W sticker on the window for them.

2) Bugs, Bugs, Bugs:
Yup bugs on the car, it must look like a giant flower to them.....The bugs are thinking they hit the vegas jack pot....what a cruel joke.

3) I had a cop friend tell me the other day "Dude, I should give you a ticket just on general principles!" :0

I had an officer tell me it was "hard to miss that car"

The yellow is perfect.

i have a yellow FD. can i join?

i haven't had any deals w/ the bugs, but i'm in LA and there're hardly any bugs here. and the washing, yeah i can not wash it in a week or two and it still looks real clean, save for some dust! yellow is my FAVORITE color, i love it! and i love those people who think yellow is ridiculous, i just laugh at them on the inside as they sit in their gray auto appliances eating my dust. i've had people complementing my car while driving. my house is yellow, too

well here's another chime in for ya then.. i own black..wouldn't want it any other way.. i take care of my car so it looks good all the time.. it's understated, sinister looking......so bad a$$... if i wanted a car that screamed "look at me" i'd go to the paint shop and turn it nuclear pink. it all just boils down to preference...not "cojones" as you put it. simple..you like ur color..we like ours..and we all like our RX-8's.. so stop with the color war. it's no more attention getting than any of our other colors of RX-8's...and that's the truth.

You apparently missed the humor in my post. It truly does take a certain kind of crazy to drive a bright yellow car, and we yellow owners all openly admit our psychotic side.

Whereas having had three black cars in my life, the only personal requirement I've found for driving one of those is either a sincere love of washing the car, or a sincere tolerance for always looking dirty.

Half the fun in the yellow car is the people that say to you "Wow, cool car! I sure wouldn't have picked that color though!" I would guess no one has said that to you.

Well, they didn't have royal purple, so I stuck with Titanium Grey. Bright colors are really not my style, except for pink. Not many people have pink cars, except for Elvis.

I like the yellow RX-8's. I see some every now and then in my area. Could it possibly be tpryor?
