Talking Life is soooooo Gr8!!!

Hey all, just joining up after a coupla weeks lurking (stalking?). I just bought my RX8 before X-mas, ’04 MT Touring Package and man am I doing a happy dance!!! This is one amazing car. Who can summarize the riding experience of this rolling sex on 4 wheels? I live in Fletcher, NC and tonight rode over 64 Brevard to 107 through Sylva and back, (locals will know these roads are all kinds of curvey). I didnt hit the gap yet, I wanted to save it's first ride for better weather conditions. This car is unreal, the handling is so on point and true it seems like it's honestly attached to a pendulum and SWUNG through a curve! There was even some drizzle (fo shizzle? ) on some of the roads and the tires didnt come loose (kept the DSC on). This car is really confidence-inspiring as I've never owned or driven anything of it's nature and (not getting cocky or careless) am able to really whip some unbelievable twistys... I love it I love it I love it!!! 2 weeks - 1700+ miles... Lookit me, I'm 31 and gibbering, were the majority of you voting me to be a 16 year old punk? It's just this car makes me feel so alive and in control of everything when in it, I feel fortunate to own one. And further, I feel good about finding this forum (handshakes for everybody), sooo much info to be had here. I wanna write more later about my shopping / buying experience, and now my shopping for parts experience... BTW, can someone please reccomend a good picture hosting service? Thanks & take care.

Congratulations on finding the meaning of life! Seriously though I'm 68 and find myself enjoying my 8 more than any car since my Fiat X 1/9 twenty-five years ago!

LOL, congrats... but be warned: the addiction only gets worse over time.

6 months into ownership, and I still get "what? what did you do?" from the wife everytime I get home cuz I just can't get that amused and wicked grin off my face before I walk in the door.

Enjoy!

Nice post!! I'm glad youre enjoying the car. Trust me, it really only gets better. I've owned my 8 sinve March and can't stop smiling. This morning I took her for a bath, I got up early, beat the crowd and started washing her. By 8am, I had 5 or 6 people come up to me asking "what kind of car is that?"!! I love this car. :D

Enjoy!! 1700 miles alreafy...are you going for the recoed??? The most milage I've seen on an 8 so far is 32k in 10 months!! You can do it!!

Thanks for the replies, obviously I hit a chord with you guys on honestly loving this car. The miles are mostly from when I drove it to Richmond, IN - 900 mile round trip, the rest is I just cant stay out of it. We've had some great weather, like in the 60's and my motorcycle is still parked... Love this car, but I said that... over and over... so sorry. Thanks spork for the image host dealie, it's a great site.

I LOVE the fact that the guy who is almost 70 has a Lightning Yellow car.

I'm 42 (which seems to put me firmly in the old fart club in this board, but you're the chairman! I'm happy to be your right hand man in the OFC, though), and when I got it ...

... My friends accused me of having a midlife crisis
... My wife said "really, why get any other color? If you're going to have a car like this, get the fun color"
... the older guy down the street said "GREAT color!"
... the kid who drives the riced up civic down the street said "Why didn't you get Black or Titanium. So much more bad ***".

Sorry for the thread hi-jack. But love MELRX8 and his attitude on life.

Congrats on the new car! Welcome. You'll find that the ache in your cheek muscles from grinning will eventually subside.

Congrats on your new ride!
Being 37, I've heard two main things:
"Mid-life crisis?"
"You are being a BAD DADDY with a car like that, besides, now MY husband is going to want one"

Mine is Sunlight Silver, which is quite nice looking on the car. I was initially wanting Yellow or Winning Blue, but they weren't available in an 04 with GT package around me. (without all that appearance package stuff on it)
I just turned 2000 miles last night and I'm loving it!
I know the area that you are talking about, have you been down near Zirconia toward Saluda, SC? Very curvy roads that way

No hijack here, this thread was about loving this car and the affects it has owning one. I like hearing how it hits the whole spectrum. For instance like having my 13 year old nephew ask me to drop him off for his date at the movies in it and WAIT until his girlfriend sees him getting out of it before leaving , to MELRX8 enjoying one at 68, again ---> ... We should make a Mazda commercial like a cheese ad... 'Behold the power of Mazda'

I do know the area, below Hendersonville on HWY 25 before Tuxedo. I do need to hit that area cause your right, it's really curvy.

I just tell them, "no midlife crisis here. Believe me. You'll know when I'm having a midlife crisis".

Although I guess I can understand why ... in the past 24 months, I've:

- Bought this car
- Got serious about my guitar playing again, have bought three electric guitars, one bass guitar, two amps and a PA system and now host weekly jam sessions in my basement
- Lost 50 lbs
- Whitened my teeth
- Went to a buzz cut because it made me look younger and made it harder to see the gray in among the thin hair

My wife says that all I need is a girlfriend and I'm set. Permission???

Congratulations, and welcome!

I've gotten accused of going through mid-life crisis because of my 8. I smile and tell them, "hell with that - I'm having a mid-life rebirth!" And once they see me drive it, they know I'm right :D

Congrats on your 8, I am about to make 3 weeks with my baby and I'm still in shock I got her.

Today while eating (I eat over my lunch bag (right under my mouth) like I have a feed bag so I don't leave crumbs....LOL, I must look rediculus) I was staring at the dash, stick, seats, roof, etc (like I normally do when I sit in her) and I thought to myself...

"I can't believe I finally got her"

I'm still in a little shock and I expect something to happen. Something, like if the bank called and said...sorry we could not confirm or re-approve, etc your loan take the car back, etc. I'm still in shock that at 27 1/2 years old I was able to re-visit my dream of a RX. I loved the RX7 but I never was able to get it, but now I'm in a RX8 (overall a better car) and I'm still just in shock that I finally got it.

I love it's burble from the exhaust, the look of the car, the great interior and especially the drive. I can't take my eyes off of it and I go into my garage at times now just to take a peak at her...like making sure she is OK before going to bed.

I'm so thankful...I thank GOD so much for blessing me with the "want" of the RX8. It's my first new car and let me tell you, did I pick a GREAT first new car or WHAT!!!

Congrats again!
