With myvey limited knowledge of how laser works it seems that the 8 would present a very bad profile for a lasar gun. can anyone comment on how successful law enforcement is using lasar against the 8?

 

Laser is shot at the front licence plate 99% of the time, as it works best on a surface that is vertical to the laser gun and reflective. The other 1% of the time it is shot at the headlights, as on most cars those are also pretty flat and at an angle close to 90 degrees from the road.

If you live in a state that lets you drive without a front licence plate, then by all means do so, and you'll have a pretty decent shot of not returning a good enough signal (especially if you have the xenon headlights, as there's no reflectors in them). Otherwise you're about screwed. Get a Valentine One. I did.

Laser on the 8 would be the same as a laser on any other car or truck. I guess the the only way to fool a laser would be to travel close to the speed of light, then the resulting doppler effect would fool most laser detection devices since you would be changing the wavelength of the laser light being reflected off you 8. (Just kidding, OK :-)
Someone once told me that in order to give you a ticket for speeding, the cops have to take a speed reading of your car twice - no matter what the method of speed detection. So as soon as you spot a cop, slam on your brakes. If the cop cannot confirm his initial speed reading, he cannot issue you a ticket. Don't know if this is BS, just something I heard.

 

I have quite a few cop buddies, and none of them are required to take two readings... but that's just in my state. They don't use laser here, as far as I know it's not approved.

 

21k miles, and recently received my first ticket. Damn instant on laser. I was in the left lane doing about 90, no one in front of me, the radar detector went off, I slammed the brakes on. Too late, about 200-300 yards up I saw the cop on the highway overpass. 87 in a 60, automatic court appearance. Radar/laser detectors will not help you when there's no one in front for the signals to bouce off of and they are using instant on. I do not have any opinion about purported laser foolers.

 

Blinders (Lazer Jammers) do work. See links under "Will Lazer Jammers Cause False Alerts" thread I started (as binnug under old sys). I had some one pull on I10 behind me and my V1 Lazer Detector went nuts untill I pulled away from them. If you live in a city like Houston where they use Lazer all the time, a jammer would be of use late at night in lite traffic but durring the day you would have people jamming on their breaks in front of you, do to the false alerts. In my 2300 mile trip to Orlando from Houston this only happened once so I don't think they are a big problem yet.
