Just back from ZoomZoom Live but a little disappointed

I just came back from ZZL but left a little bit wanting more. They have a total of 4 race tracks: one for Rx8/MX6, one for speed3/6, one for the minivan, and one for CX7. But each person was limitted two only two runs per course.

So I only was able to make two runs on the Rx8 and that's it. Wasn't much interested in the speed3/6 so I left after running the Rx8. I wanted to try the MX6 but since the MX6 and Rx8 shared the same track, I ran out of token so to speak. As the result, one can't really say how the Rx8 would perform since the track itself didn't explore the rx8 performing envelop. Too bad.

Track limit was not the only problem. The Rx8 track was very small and smaller than that of the Speed3/6 track. Most of the track I think could be run on first gear.

Also, the Speed3/6 track had electronic timing display so you could see how fast you run. But on the Rx8 track you would think they have something similar since the Rx8 was supposedly a high performance car.

Anyway, it was nice for Mazda to setup up such event but I guess it could be improved.

One more thing, I was able to look at a cut-away model of a 4cyn and rotary engine side-by-side. Compared to a rotary, the 4cyl must have had like a million moving parts. The rotary looks just so small. Wonder what the maintenance cost of a rotary vs. a conventional 4 cyn engine?

I thought it was ok. Especially since it is free. I agree with you on letting people drive the sporty cars more than two times. There were not many people there anyway. Did you go to the Chevy Rev-it-up event. It was $45. Longer courses, unlimited runs. But there were too many people which detered a lot of people from running over and over again. The MX-5 hardtop version is pretty good...

I wasn't aware of the Chevy Rev-it-up event. I actually didn't see one.

I put extensive comments in the West Coast forum, but basically lines were way too long esp the MS track.

And to the op: it is MX-5 "Miata" not MX-6. That coupe was discontinued (sadly) years ago.

That's too bad, the Speed6 course was a decent course, about 35 seconds of driving, and the gynakana(sp?) was an interesting course, where you try to hit "targets" by getting as close to certain cones as possible. I wish I could have stayed longer but I needed to make SevenStock (didn't have any time on Sunday).

I also loved the Mazda preferred parking, where if you drove a Mazda you could park next to the event entrance. My poor friends in a Saturn had to park farther away.

i went to the Zoom Zoom event here in S Cali. It was a little different. They did have 4 tracks though, one for the mx5 and rx8 which was a really short performance track just to let loose a little...there was a ms6 tack to beat the posted time, that was fun and the car was a delight (very quick i thought) there was also a cx7 track where you aim the car over targets in the road (lazer guided) and a match time track that basically had all the other cars except for there was no ms3. i was able to wear a wrist band at the event (bright pink) but the only use of that was to let others know you were a sevenstock attendee and i didnt see any other pink bands there so that was a let down. i did see some ss9 shirts and a few attendees like Razz and Krazie Kave

Odd. I went to the one in DC and they had no limits on any of the cars. I heard some rumors about only being able to go twice on the CX-7, but I went 4 times (trying to build some points). I got two runs in on the 6 in 15 minutes or so. I was in the 8 at least 3 times and the shift from first to second was very shortly into the lap. I'm no pro driver or anything, but I got the DSC light to come on several times in the 8. Might not be the fastest way around the track, but I most certainly was able to put the car some sort of limit.

the mid range was okay, but the car was a dog below 3000RPM. I understand the car is not built like a swedish car, but it needs power pretty bad below 3K. The RX-8 auto we have seems to be faster at take off

Ja, I thought the Mazdaspeed M6 was a dog in first and not much better in 2nd. But the car is made for highr speed so you couldn't tell on that track.

None of the tracks at the Alameda stop really needed more than 2nd gear so it wasn't all that taxing on the cars.

Some drivers were an embarassment to themselves though trying to shift.

Did any one receive any coupon toward new Mazda vehicle? I didn't get any this time, don't know if that's the case with everyone.

It's on the back of your I.D. badge, Conun. Same place as last year, only the $ amount is half as much. (Sort of like the quality of the whole event vs last years )

Wish I had experienced it last year.
