Lessee! I bought a new 2008 iRX8 in April. You now have a new 2009. My 3000 mile 2008 is now worth? I'm starting to wear out this friggin' wall!
Speyrod - read through the notes and docs on mazdausa.com for new I work at Snoqualmie, so I'll probably see your around the flagpole. Congrats! It's nice! As with all things, including my RX8, there are things I love and things I wish were different. It is what it is.
I wonder how long it's going to take for some of the new things like memory seats, automatic headlights...sheesh even GM hs these to make the aftermarket? Or do I just need to dig through the links?

CarAndDrive - you are so welcome.
MazdaJeff - I will get some pics up soon on the front without the plate holder soon. And some pics of the rear LEDs too.
My personalized plate is on order - actually a transfer from my "old""8". RXCELR8...... I'm gona run without the front plate and plate holder till the last day of my temp Then my buddy at work (Fleet and Facilities Director) is gona build me some kind of trick bracket so I don't have that wart on the nose holding the plate on. Maybe down low wrapped somewhat under the nose. Don't know - any ideas? As a last resort, I'll drill 2 more holes in the new plate that line up with the bolt holes on the mesh vent on the nose. The plate would then be flush against the nose (under the solid black plastic thingy).
I'm currently working on rewiring the fogs to come on with the parking lights (as in my other 8). They moved the fog relay, but the wire colors are the same! So, the fog light rewire in the DIY forum still works.
Update - fog light rewire didn't work. Voltages and on/off parking lights/fog lights still the same. They MUST have some more logic/another relay somewhere as I could NOT power the fogs with the 12v from the tail light relay - bummer.
More later!

Looking at the MazdaUSA website yesterday, I see that they're offering 2 types of Black? What the &*@! Why not add another color? The colors are already pretty limited this year, so I can't make sense out of 2 black choices.

License Plate pics
Hi all,
Been a long time, but I finally got my personalized plates and took some pics.
My buddy and I did some hole drilling and a bit of grinding on the top of the plate for it to make the turn round the nose.
Some advice - loose the wart of a plastic thing Mazda gives to mount to plate - it just looks nasty!

Very, Very nice on the new 2009! I just got my 2008 from Renton Mazda (Call for Tyer, a new young kid salesman who could have a long career if he treats people the way he treated me!). Very interesting to hear your comments on how the 09 feels compared to the first gen. I'm up to about 600 miles, and it is so damn sweet! I have the straight Sport, and I'm totally cool with the things I'm missing because the price was so damn cheap! This is such a superb machine, and even if they bring back the RX-7--which I'm hoping for--I don't buy it, I'm hoping to drive this RX-8 for the next 20 years. cheers.

YO! SWSDuvall! I just bought my 08 in late April. I was ungodly upside down on the H3 I traded, so I need aftermarket people to step up with the memory seats and climate control. I can only guess what Mazda would charge as "parts". Now I need a beater for steelhead season. You did a good job on the plate, but why bother? One thing I've noticed about mine is the mileage improves with age, and as I believe it was Patrck Bedard at Car & Driver said, "The last pass on a rotary engine car is its fastest." Might apply to mileage, too. Rambling thoughts. Last time I looked, Renton Mazda, nice people, my salesman was Van (PLUG) didn't have any 09's.

Tony says, RX8s are GREAT
radiator screen
did you notice they added a small screen in front of the radiator to protect it from rocks on the lower half. it only covers where the opening in the grill allows air to the radiator. this is pretty cool, can you post a pic of that so everyone else can see it.

A lot of car companies release next year's in the Q3 of the current year.
Look around and you will see other car companies that already have 2009 model year cars.

Update at 1,533 miles
Hi all,
I should have more miles on it, but the weather is nice and I'm commuting on my 2005 Kawasaki Z750S My commute is 18 miles each way.
I was just reading a post by blur-e-eyed (https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/2009-rx8-feedback-oil-useage-etc-152527/) and he's right on with his comments!
IPod integration module is coming. The wife wants me to wait until Christmas...... oh that's much too long From what I can infer by reading the owners manuals of the CX-9 and others is it looks like you will get similar info as if there was a CD-ROM (MP3) disk in. In other words, folder browsing, song text info, etc.
Bluetooth - wonderful, same comment as blur-e-eyed, some ppl say I'm hard to hear.
Rain Sensing wipers - same as blur-e-eyed. HOW did I EVER drive without it before The only complaint and yes, I'm being ****, is when the rain gets heavy, it goes to "fast wipe" much to quickly. But, it is awesome!
Auto Headlights - nice, but I'll have a better opinion in the fall/winter. There is a delay to activating during the day. You have to be in the I-90 tunnel for a good 5+ seconds before they auto on, but when on, they auto off within 2 seconds when you enter "the light". Only down side of using them during the summer is when I start my car in the garage, they come on and before the xeons even warm up I'm out of the garage and they're turning off.
Nav system - There are some voice activation commands that I'm always fighting with the VR system. I called Mazda USA and "logged" a complaint. I hope if/when they update the software I'll get it. I still have a Garmin StreetPilot 2610. I must say the database of information (stores for example) is sorely lacking as compared to the Garmin. For example, there is no way to look up by category nor "title" a FedEx store. If you know the street address it works great. I know, I know, NavTec......
New wheel design looks great, but I agree with blur-e-eyed, they are pain to clean. No easy wipe down.
Love the keyless entry. I have mine programmed to autolock when I close the door and walk away. The keyless module fits nicely in my wallet. Plus, Mazda put a small button under the rear bumper that pops open the trunk (if you have the keyless entry).
I too miss the mute button on the steering wheel, but the "manual" volume control **** isn't that far away. Plus when a call comes in on the bluetooth, the audio get muted. If you have a CD in (MP3) it will pick up where the song was after the call is over. I haven't tested the Sirius radio yet to see if it "pauses" the song, but continues to buffer it. The standard sat radio screen has a memory/playback feature, so you can manually pause the channel and resume when you want - up to 90 min I think. Pretty cool if you're listening to talk radio or in the drive through at Starbucks
Edit: Yes, Sat radio continues to buffer during a phone call. You can then go to the "Replay" screen and rewind. The only nit is it does not "pause" the sat radio. You have to "rewind" it manually - MAN are we a spoiled generation or what!!
Oil consumption - I've used 1.8 quarts in 1,500 miles. It is using oil at close to 2x the rate of my 2004. But I like it - keep that rotor nice and lubed As others have said, "red line a day keeps the engine replacement at bay". I'm not cruising at 7k rpm, but as my license plates says (RXCELR8). I'm gona let U Mazda do the first oil change with me watching. The '09 has an aluminum cover plate under the engine that must be removed to get to the oil pan/filter. They're has to be 529 screws holding it on. I will most likely have them drain and replace the rear end and tranny fluid with Redline. I figure most of the burrs and filings should be off the gears by then.
Mileage - on my daily commute, 95% city I get 16.5. On a recent highway run of 80 miles with cruise control set at 68 mph, I got 20.7. So, the EPA sticker is actually close this time (16-22).
Brettus - dyno?? Still waiting for that "deposit" into my paypal account.
I'm waiting for TopGear or one of the rags to test it. I'm very curious to see the 0-60 times with the new gear ratio's. Let them torture the clutch. I remember 5.9 secs from C&D or R&T. Anyone want to hazard a guess? What impact would the gear change have?
Edit: I read some of the posts on the 0-60 times. I noticed with the gearing (correct me if I'm wrong) that you can get to 60.6 mph in 2nd gear, so why the need to shift to 3rd? Just bury the throttle and bump the rev limiter in 2nd to get your 0-60 times.
