Question I'm sure this has been discussed before...

My car just broke 80k miles and I would like to run High-Millage Oil fairly soon, after a few more oil changes...

Okay heres the thing...Systhetics are supposibly bad for rotary engines correct? I know theres a huge debate on that but hey...If the majority of the people say dont do it...I'm just gonna say, cool, okay. No synthetic.

BUT, high millage oil, it has specific formula's to help seal off any kind of stress cracks or any kind of scratch damage and it helps seal off and leaks from the engine right?

SO, don't you think it would be good to run high millage oil in a rotary engine???

i've never heard of anyone talk about this before, and im new with rx8's (fc3s owner)

but anyway, heres the real question, can i run high millage oil? and do you think it would be better for it? Or do you think it could potentially hurt the engine?

Don't take *too* much care of it. You don't necessarily want it to hit 100k miles

it is a big controversy, that's for sure
what is your location? If you live in a hot climate, you may be able to use the idemitsu 20w50 as well in the renesis.
I currently use RP 10w40 in my turbo 8. I am located in the midwest.

Honestly I think you are better off using a synthetic like RP or Idemitsu instead of a high mileage oil. That's just me though.
You will get a lot of varying opinions on the subject. There are some threads that talk of this subject if you do a quick search. Just be prepared for a lot of reading. You will ultimately have to make the decision yourself.

oh yeah, that is a question ive been meaning to ask...uhhh, i know how mazda had the recall thing...ummm, my car wasnt one of them, it was one of the very first rx8's and it was built perfectly.

the cars runs VERY well...how long do these motors last on average??? Like, a lagit, well taken care of motor?

IMHO, high mileage oil should only be used in engines that are leaking or smoking.

On switching from dino to synthetic...you might take a look at #561 and ensuing discussion

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/lets-look-expo1s-over-100k-renesis-motor-138402/page23/

The whole thread is really worth reading, but that particular discussion caught my eye. Deja vu from half a century ago when there was similar conversation about switching from the old non-detergent oil to detergent oil.

very intersting lol. I thought 5w20 seems way thin for a hot rotary...but I've never had a N/A rotor motor so I didn't think toooo much about it hehe =]

hmmmm, 10w30 has always done me well in my other cars...being in AR, seems to be about the right thickness.

Royal Purple 10W30 ^_^ I just hope it dosnt reveal an issue...blah, that would kill me so bad...
