Thanks for your input! I think the 8 is best for who I am, my driving style and the purpose of the build...

Now moving along, as I understand it:

Ceramic Seals, Lightweight rotors, Major forms of engine cooling and breathe-ability, an Interceptor-X EMS, and a really good tuning are all necessary to ensure that this beast doesn't self-destruct as the commonly tend to do...Am I correct?

I've already done my searching and the info above is a fraction of what I came up with to ensure a successful build...

What I couldn't find was information on the overall strength of the renesis...i.e. How much can this thing take? Will somekind of stronger rotor housing be necessary to handle the extra power?

What are the key components for a successful build of this proportion?
you GOTTA have a Veilside kit

Vdub1285,
Since this is a RX-8 forum of course the majority of the replies will be for the 8 and against the Mustang. You will get more performance per dollar spent with the Mustang. Mods are plentiful and very affordable compared to the 8 and you'll find more people experienced and capable of building and modifying the Mustang. Mazsport does great work but if something goes wrong in the middle of a rally you're much more likely to find someone to help you if you have a Mustang instead of a rotary.

Why just those two?

Lots of other options, that are reasonably reliable for what you might be considering.

I know that I’m going to get flamed for this, but I would not go with the RX8 or the mustang for that matter. The rotary engine is still somewhat of an enigma. There are a few aftermarket companies that are working on prototype FI kits and they just can’t seem to dial it in. This is why there are only a hand full of FI kits available for the rotary, after its third year of being in production. The tuners keep pushing the release dates futher and futher back.

Have you considered an EVO or STI? These are probably the best bang for the buck and would be easiler to extract more HP from vs NA engines.

Yeah man I def have and without a doubt are great cars, its just a matter of $$$$

The whole purpose of this build is to something no one else has done or rarely done and I wanna "build" a car to my specifications not buy something premade...

Yes, it may be a Mustang, but I'd start from scratch with just a shell and turn it into a TWIN TURBO Mustang with a C4 Racing Tranny and Stroker Longblock...The setup is rarely seen because of time and $, but its within my price range and I'm willing to take the time to build a car of this proportion, not just slap a supercharger on it and call it a day...

The RX8 is a car that is pretty damn rare compared to everyone else on the road and to do a FI 13B with Ceramic Seals and other crazy ****...No one really does it...

I've considered build a VW Jetta VR6-Turbo and turn that into a racer because people rarely do it and a few other ideas in mind....

Everyone does Evo's, Sti's, GTI's etc...I want something cheap enough I can build from the ground up and rare enough that It'd be like oh ****...

a supercharged mustang vs. a turbo, heavily boosted rotary? which one will you blow up first? I'm betting you'll toast the rotary. Get a Mustang.

The issues are because it isnt just a new car with the same engine thrown in it... it's a 13B-MSP, a different design than previous 13B's, so I'd say it should be expected that aftermarket products would take more time for design and release than products for generic cars that you see everywhere, such as mustangs. As far as reliability, it all depends on tune and if it's properly maintained. You seem to be leaning towards the RX-8 which I would say is a good choice, but if you plan to pursue that option, it would be very good to read more about the car. It seems like you're interested in dedicating time to this so I dont think it will be a problem for you to successfully build it.

As far as the stronger rotor housing, I havnt heard of any for the renesis. I know you can find them for the 13B used in the RX-7 but dont believe there are any for the 8.

Good luck with either car you choose.
