If my car door comes back and hits me one more time...

DrRadar, if something is falling apart on you, that's not what's being discussed here, I don't think. The door & everything is in tiptop condition, it just isn't working in a desirable way.

I had a damn XR4Ti about ten years ago that would throw ten inch lightening bolts at me, every time I reached for the door handle!!
That damned thing hated me, anyway, and the feelings became mutual. It blew more stupid little water hoses and warped more heads than the local Ford junkyard could find replacements for.
It also had quite a hunger for turbos.
It was a hoot when it ran right, about two days in the year I owned it. The day I was the sucker for buying it and the day another sucker took it.
Search "Door check", that's what the thing is generally called, and I HATE it. It is by far the worste thing on the car.
I have been railing about this periodically, although putting a shoe up to make sure that it has settled down before you get out of the vehicle isn't a bad idea. I still hate it. ARRGGGHHHHHHH!

I've found I'm used to it and no longer have problems. I open the door gently agaist the farthest stop and release it gently. It stays put.
The molded plastic/rubber part that goes into the door, looks as if it has the same shape from both directions and may be made to be installed either direction, for ease of assembly in the factory.
I was thinking of taking it out and reshaping it, a little, to make the ramps more abrupt in the closing direction, but I got used to operating the door without problems. Once I got past being pissed, I learned to work it.

I started laughing out loud when I read the title of this thread. Mine does this all the time as well. Maybe it has something to do with the drivers weight. Hell I don't know. The only time it really irritates me is when I am in front of several people and I just look like a guy going through a mid life crisis trying to get out of his car and failing.
Haha. That's true.
Me, I have no problem keeping the front door open to get out. But whenever I open rear door, the front door closes, so it always have to do the sort of chicken wing dance to keep both doors open to take out my from the back seat.
Haha.

one thing that happened to me. i open the door, it swings back at me, i put my hand out and hit the door lock. i get out and the door shuts. my key are in the car and i am locked out. the door lock should be in an upright postion, NOT straight out. LOOK MAZDA, MOVE THE DOOR LOCK!!!!!!?FIX THE DOOR SWING!!!!
i feel better now. joe

i came from a camaro to the rx8 so the door doesn't bother me. Camaro doors are long and heavy and also bounce back. I smashed my leg with the door in the camaro only once. I learned my lesson. The 8's door feels like angel kisses compared to a camaro door smashing your leg.

I don't have this problem because I hold onto the door until it's open to my liking, but my daughter complains about it every time she opens the passenger side door. I think it's a user issue.
Many who have come to the RX-8 from the lightweight doors in their fwd 4-door cars may need to get used to the heavier, longer doors on the RX-8. They're heavy for a reason- - no B pillar.

B Pillar is in the back door, and I am comparing it to, amongst other things, a 1972 mercedes Benz (mucho heavy doors), which has much better door checks. As a matter of fact, a 1972 Cadillac El Dorado, which has the longest heaviest doors in exsistance, has better door checks than this thing. Nope. I'm sticking with ARRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!
