AZ Idle issue?

Alright this will be my first thread for the issues I have with my RX8. I bought this at a third party dealership. I bought it as is and practically no long term warranty. There was some moisture on the left side tailights so they will replace it for free at no charge on my day off.

Ok so the day I bought it, I was too excited to even notice the issue. I took a hard turn on the ramp to the freeway and it felt like something vibrated or rubbing could be the tires who knows. But they are aftermarket rims. But this is my main concern. When I start the car, it doesn't have that smooth start, it feels like its having a hard time starting or it feels like its choking when starting. And then when I push on the gas pedal starting on 1st gear...from 0-1k rpms the car is very shaky then smooth through all the rpms. When idle drops to 1k rpms then it starts to shake and vibrate a little till it goes back to normal idle. Remember this only happens at 0-1k rpms. I can push the car hard all the way up to 9k with no problems, no hesitations, bogging or anything. It feels like a worn out motor mount. The salesman did tell me the car did kinda run like **** until they replace the coils or did they?

Any suggestions?

may also want to check your air filter, MAF sensor and eccentric shaft sensor.

Sounds like a bad engine mount. How old are the sparkplugs?

Engine feels strong and new,but just starting it up and at very low rpms it tends to shake..its not too bad, its bearable, but just annoying.

You know how most dealerships will clean out the engine bay,but when you take the engine cover its all dirty and alot of crap right? Well this one looks like everything is new, even the hoses look brand new, the engine itself inside looks so new i can lick off it. Everything looks so clean like most of the stuff has been replaced. I've had many friends who bought used cars off dealerships 03 and up,but when you removed the engine covers all the hoses looks so dirty, engine looks a bit rusted, but mine seriouslly it was just came out of the factory.

To answer everyone question here honestly Idk. The sales person only mentioned about replacing the coils. I'll try to make a video soon and try to let you guys see what I mean.

Yes that is an aftermarket alarm indicator. Looks like the ones they use to install at Earnhardt Mazda, who is no more. They use to install them on new cars and then charge you during the sale. Whether you wanted it or not. It was on both the RX8's I bought there.

The remote on the back says Visteon model: 41848 and the remote doesn't work at all. I thought it would have a dead CR2025 battery, but I replaced it and it still did not work wth is going on? Another issue.

Did you solve your rough idle issue?

I've been working on mine the past week or so.

I've tried:
  1. BG44K Fuel Additive
  2. Replaced Ignition Coils
  3. Replaced Spark Plugs

The coils had white burn marks and the plugs were fouled so i'm glad I did both at 40K.

The car has improved but i've still got a rough idle at 750rpm-1K and only after the car has warmed up.

I noticed oil in the airbox yesterday. In the limited reading i've done, people are installing catch cans for that issue which to me shouldn't be necessary. Wondering if I should throw in the towl and take it to Mazda. I'm burn off this BG44K tank first. Also thinking about cleaning the MAF next.

I have the rough idle problem as well, but its only when its in drive or reverse, if its in neutral or park its purrs like a kitten. Some cars i know you can ajust the idle rpms i'm wondering if you can do this on the RX8? Its a 2004 with 60k miles.

I missed the year and the miles...

I suggest reading through the threads in my sig, the First $100 cleans up a lot of stuff on the older ones, then plugs and coils.

Welcome.

So my issue ended up being the motor mounts. I was experiencing rough idle/transition from park or neutral to drive or reverse. The exact symptom is described on the TSB which I took my local Mazda server center.

Hmmm...i may have to have mine checked before it happens to mine. I have vibration issues myself.
