Wink Indiana Jones and the Rattle of Doom

This leads me to yet another adventure in owing a sports car or any car for that matter. Did you ever have a parent that hunted rattles in their vehicles? My Dad was one of these people. He would drive around the block and make me press on every plastic part till the culprit was found. I remember one time he had a Porsche 944 and he put me in the truck/glass hatch and drove around the neighborhood till I found the evil rattle.

Well, now that I’m older have my own cars I’m now the same way. I get rattles in my car that drives me nuts. There is one in the dash or glove box. I have printed out the D.I.Y from the forum and going to tackle it this weekend. Over the years I have perfected the folded piece of paper technique but have moved on to other advance methods. Such of these are Velcro, double sided tape, and silicone. I have used so much over the years that 3M needs to send me a Christmas card this year.

Tell me about your fight with the rattle and what weapons you employed to seek out and discover the Rattle(s) of Doom

I use the method of fear. I stare at the rattle until it stops. Btw I used to own a 944. Loved that thing

Every time I had a rattle with my 8, it ended up being nickels and dimes in my center console or a can of MONSTER in my cup holder. Or small tools in my door side panel console.

I used to own a Chevy Vega... the ONLY way to stop ALL the rattles in that car was to turn it off.

Ouch, Vega = worest car EVER!

I had buddy who bought one when they were new. It didn't even come with primer under the paint. I was all rusted out after 6 months of ownership.

EightCostsMoney, do you use a mechanic's stethoscope? If not, for someone who is sensitive to NVH, it is a very helpful tool.

I premix the rattles and the extra lube stops it.
