Idiots at the dealership

I took my 04 in about a month ago to get the recalls done (finally), the air bags and fuel tank gasket.. The past week I've been smelling gas but it wasnt until today I got down, looked under the car and saw the leaking... I took the back seat off and sure enough it's up top. Im sure the guys at the dealership put it in wrong or didnt tighten it properly... Should I take it up there (45min drive) or fix it myself (I have changed those before)? Anybody else have stories of incompetence from the dealer?

Plenty of stories of incompetence. I would call them and see how they prefer to make this up to you. I would get it towed there on their dime for a fix.

Clearly, they messed something up during the fuel tank recall.

So yeah, I'd give them a ring ASAP.

This same thing happened to me, but after about a years time oddly enough. I had to take the car back for a second time back in October for them to replace the ring again. Cost a $20 tow, and a call to the fire department from my wife since she smelled gas in our garage.

I put a BHR fuel pump in and don't want them messing with it, so I'll wait until it leaks to fix under recall.

Gasket install by recall was defective

Merry Christmas. In my 2005 6MT winning blue, at the first fill up after having the gas tank gasket recall I had a significant gas spill. Towed back to the dealership.

They found the gasket had a flat spot and was defective. They asked me to agree to a nominal 1 hour of labor charge but since the defective gasket was done under recall, they fixed it with a new gasket free of charge.

I had my airbag recall done last May, still getting calls to get it done, finally I agreed to take the car in to have it done again, same dealer. When I show up, I will pull out my paperwork showing they already did it, and to replace my waste of time I will demand a free oil change lol
