O well. Civic is DA ****~ yeah ... the **** ... **** ....

I went to a "show and shine" meet for an import car club around here - I was the only RX-8 there, and my yellow RX-8 was "show and shined" to a fare-thee-well - you could see it clear across the lot in a sea of darker colors and stupidly-modded up cars.

I had a number of trash talkers come by and I asked them straight out "why do you think that? Have you ever driven one?" Not one could answer "yes". I then asked them, "Instead of trash talking, why don't you ask me a real question about the car?" And at that, I got some decent conversations going. Most are just ignorant idiots. There was one child (and I use that term nicely - insolent punk is more like it) that just wouldn't listen - he kept trashing it, and trashing me personally - "old man don't know what a real car is", that kind of crap. I told him "Look, if you're looking to get me pissed off at you, I won't do it. How about instead you take me to show me your ride? I'd like to see what you drive because I'm sure it's a great car or otherwise you wouldn't be so confident." Well he wouldn't bite on that. A little while later (after I had locked up the car so I could go walk around and look at the other cars on display), I saw him headed to his car, so I followed him discretely. He was driving a "sticker-mod" clapped-out Civic four-door automatic, with the only "real mod" being a $69.95 JC Whitney wing on the trunk. I caught up with him and said "Hey pal, nice ride." He flipped me off.

Moral: Don't let the idiots grind you down and **** you off. They are jealous, immmature idiots. You chose your car. Enjoy it or trade it.

It pisses me off not because someone has an opinion that differs from mine, but just that it's a comment that doesn't serve to do anything other than to get at me inevitably so they can feel better about themselves. I don't think they're jealous or anything -- just morons.

It does weigh on me a little and I have to admit that my search for a new car is probably partially fueled by that despite what I'd like to believe. It sucks to think that the car you're excited about is only going to serve to be fodder for your "friends" to make comments about. I don't know what the right decision for you is, but I do realize it's not always as easy as "don't listen to what other people think". For my part, I'd rather have the car than a bunch of jackass friends like that.
Hey you on www.club3g.com or org I cant remember what it was, I had a 3G too. Got the 8 now. It was a fun car but I missed the AT SC thing, I could not wait I had to have the 8!

I get a kick out of all the Accord idiots. My mother (73 years old), my mother in law (68 years old), and my father in law (70 years old) all drive Accords. It's a terrific family car. And even better as a car for old people!

Not one of these people drive an RX-8. The reason these cars are so popular for the mod crowd is that:

1) there's a zillion of them made - lots of cheap cars available on the used lots.
2) there's a zillion of them made - lots of available factory and aftermarket parts
3) there's a zillion of them made - Honda builds them very strong, which makes them a very popular car.

Why don't have one?

a) I've already owned 4 of them - 1988, 1992, 1995, 1999. Don't need another.
b) There's a zillion of them made.

Love them Accords. I buy one for my mom and it's one thing I don't need to even worry or think about in regards to her. Best $20K I ever spent.

You have to remember though, you can make anything fast, so them having a faster accord isn't really a big deal. I've seen video clips of modded mini vans before.

psssh I got smoked by a civic once, and I mean I didn't have a prayer. (early 90's civic hatch - turbo'd and intercooled)

It's the same as a highly modded RX-8 or equivalent beating a Corvette or equivalent. They're in completely different classes, but with enough money anyting can be fast...even family econo cars!

How much horsepower do you want? Some mild bolt on setups won't even hit 250whp on the 4 cylinder models, others with fully built motors and big turbo applications can make several hundred more than that.

Yeah, who would have thought that people with accords would want to socialize with other people. Crazy.

After I left I told my friend that i'm not going to one of his stupid meets anymore, not because I was pissed, because it was really gay. All these people talk about is how they can rice their car up even more, what kinda led stuff they slap on. It was really stupid to have people trash talk. about the HP thing, my friend swap out his motor for an Acura CL six speed and he's doing about 245 whp NA. I still tell him he's stupid to put that much money into an accrod. I said he should sell his car and get a FD

And therein lies the folly of modified cars. At the end of the day they are worth the same as if the car were box stock on the used car market, unless, and this is a HUGE unless, you're willing to find a buyer for the car who is willing to take on the financial, mechanical and other risk of a pre-modified car. That's a pretty narrow if.

Actually, I'd love to hear stories from anyone who has managed to positively recover their mod investment when they sold the car - i.e. if you managed to get back at least the same percentage of your mod investment as the new--to-used ratio was. That is, if you bought your car for $25K, put $5k in mods in it and managed to sell it for $20,000 (the value of the used car at 75% value retention) plus $3800 (75% of the value of your mods).

Anyone have that luck?

Just as I thought ...

Doesn't matter if you're modding an '8 or an Accord, it's a waste of money, unless you're willing to write that money off for the purpose of entertainment.

I agree with you 100%. I want him to sell his car and get a real sports car with a FD, even just a 240 he can sell his car and still add mods. his car will be alot faster and better handeling then his accord
