Has anyone sucked a bird into the intake yet? i saw this bird fly down in front of my car and it never came back up. Should i be expecting a rotten smell soon, i dont see the bird anywhere in there. really wierd.

Doves are stupid. I had one land about 15 feet in front of me while I was doing 55+. Ended up going to a carwash right after my appointment to get the bloody bird bits washed out of my front air dam.
I still felt bad, although it was a little funny watching the big puff of feathers behind the car!

On another note, although I feel bad for the bird that I hit, I get a sick sense of pride knowing that I ran down a bird in flight...

I certainly didn't mean to do that. Keep in mind that the bird that I hit was actually an accident, I only embellish the story for fun. I would never try to kill a bird. Actually, I am quite bad at killing in general.
My apologies for any offense...

I have thought that I have done this several times, matter of fact, I cannot see how it didn't happen, however, most likely, the bird missed by the skin of it's beak and took a hard turn to the right (or left, depending on which side it was coming from) and flew below your vision and off to the side of the road. It probably landed somewhere a bit shooken up but gave a big sigh of relief. Afterwards it told the story of the big wheeled beast that almost hit him to his friends and family.
Seriously, though, if you had hit him, you would have heard a big thump. I hit one once a few years back in a different car, it was a robin, most likely, and it hit the windshield of a mini van I owned at the time and it went straight up and I kept watching for it to come down and I must have been at least 600 feet from it before it hit the road. I was doing around 75. That bird was launched straight up in the air. I hate it when that kind of stuff happens but I couldn't avoid it. Worst one that happened was one foggy morning leaving Florida for home on a trip with my parents and my sons (talk about a vacation from hell) and there was this Crane in the middle of the road but it was so foggy I didn't see it until it was too late and it flew up and hit the windshield. It had to have gotten hurt and possibly killed. I was sorry that it happened and gratefull it didn't break the windshield. So far, knock on wood, I haven't hit a deer.

I hit a wood pecker and I didn't see him fly away. I was only doing about 25 or 30. I just figured that he hit the car, since I heard the sound, and was either dead or squished.
I drive a 1/2 block more to my house and park. I'm there for a short while and return to my car for another errand. A mile down the road I stop at a stop sign and suddenly, this bird flies out from under the front grill. I think he was knocked out for a while inside the grill - radiator space, and when he got his senses back, he flew out.
...man that was wierd!

You know, I did a search for bird strike or bird and radiator this weekend and not a single thread like this one showed up. Of course the 160 MPH Viper vs. Bird thread appeared. I thought maybe I was the only one this happened to.
Departing Corpus Christi on I-37 this weekend a pigeon landed about 1/10th of a mile ahead of me right in the middle of my lane. I had no opportunity to change lanes and simply hoped he would take off before I got there. No such luck. He disappeared under the front of my car and only a few feathers appeared out behind me. No noticable noise occurred and there was no change in engine cooling or A/C operation.
A stop about 80 miles later revealed two or three feathers stuck to my front rotary accent. After kneeling down to get a good look in to the radator I saw the bird stuck under the bottom of the condenser/radiator with feathers sticking out of the bottom of the splash guard. I wasn't prepared to remove him at this convenience store and the risk of leaving him there until I got home seemed small. So he got a free ride to Austin.
After a trip to Wal-Mart for some Rhino ramps the bird extraction began. It was actually quite simple. I unlocked the two quick lock fasteners at the back of the splash guard and removed the bolts just to the left and right of those quick lock fasteners. Removing those four fastening points allowed me to gently pull down the back of the splash guard and remove what was left of the bird. The whole process took all of about 15 minutes.
It's funny in all my years of working around aviation I've seen the aftermath of a few bird strikes. I never thought I'd have to deal with one in the context of my car.
