Tire Pressure Monitor

OK heres the deal... i get in the car and turn it on, and the tire pressure monitor is on and i go outside and check the tires and they are perfectly fine. i start driving and no more than 5 minutes later it goes off. It remains off until the car gets cold again and then it happens all over again. Does anyone else have this problem? Should i get it fixed from the dealer or is there anything i can do?

Check the pressure on your tires with a good gauge.. If any of them are below 30psi cold then you really should add some air. The reason they go off after five minutes of driving might be because your tires get warm, causing the air inside to expand to a higher pressure.

What GiN said and to add to his reply, make sure that each tire is exactly the same and that there are no differences between any tire. A .5 psi difference will set it off as it will pick it up as a low tire especially when cold.

While it makes sense to keep all the tires at exactly the same pressure, I don't think the TPMS warning light will or should come on if you're tires have a 0.5 PSI difference.

Mine has never done that and I've had 1 PSI or more differences. If one tire is sitting in the shade and the other is in direct sunlight, that would easily cause a 0.5 PSI difference.

Make sure your stock summer tires are set to 32 PSI cold. Dealer time if the light still comes on.

You might find this
Tire Pressure Monitoring System Service Tips document interesting as it explains technical working of the TPMS.

No - not that I've seen - and I've been monitoring this subject. Some people have taped over it, but I'd be concerned about glue residue and the "tacky" look.

Thanks for sharing your true opinion that it drives you nuts ....... I think it would drive me nuts too, but some claim it does not bother them. Is it driving you nuts enough to have the install the sensors on the wheels?

I opted to buy a second set of sensors for my snow tires / wheels.

I AM GOING TO HAVE THEM PUT ON SOON. IT BOTHERS THE HELL OUT OF ME. THE LIGHT IS NOT ALWAYS ON WHICH IS WIERD CONSIDERING THEY ARE NOT EVEN IN THERE AT ALL. THE LIGHT COMES ON ONLY AFTER 4-5 MILES AND THEN FLASHES LIKE CRAZY. ITS PISSING ME OFF!
