I keep forgetting the AT is a whole different car. Basically Mazda took a Ford Focus platform and put a RX8 body on it for the AT. For those of you who didn't know...the AT is like 100 hp less than the MT. We AT owners should start a whole different board because are cars are nothing like the MT and we don'f fit in. Remember...this car is a great handling car...we didn't buy it because it was the most powerful car in it's class. With that said my Grand Touring AT has the exact same suspenion as the MT. Besides....I can't talk on the phone, hold my coffee, steer, and shift at the same time while carving the canyons.

I was thing of the rx-8 but it sounds like theres not much you can do with it, which is why I was asking. Go ahead and rip the tib, but I'm sure it would smoke any of you.

people that say tricked out shouldnt buy an 8. yes im talking about you. besides, when youre driving an rx8 youre expected to have SOME sort of professionalism compared to a tiburon.
also, the rx8 is one of the best ALL AROUND cars on the market. if you want speed, go buy a early 90s import that "trick" that ride out.

I think.
Prioritize what you want out of a car you can afford, research it, test drive it then purchase #1 on the list.
That was funny wasn't it?

The automatics aren't always a bad thing:
- Almost anyone can drive them
- They are more consistant compared to shifting gears
- A person can't miss or grind a gear (unless they accidentally downshift using the paddles )
- Don't have to pay as close attention to the little beep that is heard at red line to shift
- Have slightly more torque with the 8
- Driver's on the RX-8 board become stronger like the boy named Sue... unless they crack and trade for a manual.
- If your wife or significant other doesn't know how to drive stick they can drive you home if you have been drinking.
That said driving a front wheel car with a ton of power spells torque steer not all that fun to have.

The manual RX8 is definitely faster than the Hyundai Tiburon V6...
As for racing, it all depends on what type of road you are on. If you have a road with a lot of turns and corners, the 8 is an unbelievable performer (much better than the 350Z in the corners). In a straight line, though, there are many cars that can beat it (S2000, 350Z, etc).

Top Gear review of the RX8 in comparison to track times of 350Z and BMW M3. All three had the same track time.
All I can say is....test drive the car. You will not find a more fun car on the planet for under $40K, as well as a more original car. The 9000 RPM redline and ultra smooth engine make the car one of the best in the world (imo).
