I think the real question is how many think it will produced.

 

It depends on how the thing drives, how the thing looks, and what the price tag looks like.

I'd be inclined to wait a year for them to work out the kinks...

 

+1 to No Auto Tranny for me.

I dont care how well it is. or whatever magic they have. I wont buy it.

Even GT-R has 6 speed gear box, its just that it was never released. I bet they're afraid that if they release it, no one will buy their Auto version, they spent a lot R&D into the GR6 ...

 

I think it will be produced. Mazda knows they must further improve fuel efficiency or the rotary will go the way of the Dodo. And at the same time they need to increase power to remain competitive. Given the 16X's projected higher mpg & higher horsepower, all within the same form factor/weight, it really can't lose, so why wouldn't they?

 

I already started saving for the next rotary. I just hope it handles as well and looks awesome (like the furai???)

 

I'd say if I'm in the same financial position as I am now, it's a definite "yes".

My fear is in the style department.
The new 6 and 3... and the revamped RX-8 are all looks I'm not that fond of.
The '09 RX-8 looks much better in real life but I still like the '04 to '08 looks better overall.


For a while Mazda avoided the bigger, heavier “me too” styling trends but their newer cars are moving in the wrong direction looks and size-wise.


Keep it small and light and that will help with the gas issues that we may all face in the next few years.
Plus if it's light enough you won't need “monster” power to move it down the road again helping with the gas issue.

As long as they put it in a lightweight sports car and don't give it the ridiculous 'grin' all their new cars have I will for sure. I just don't like the design direction they have taken.

 

The main thing I'm worried about is how high will it rev? I mean, the rotors are bigger, right? I'm wondering if they'll be too big and/or heavy to rev up to 9000 still. Thats my favorite part of the car lol. If it goes even HIGHER, I'd be sold. Completely.

 

i think ill wait a longer this time. want to see what mazda promises and see the out come of their promise. but if the new mazda sport car is a piston engine and bigger the current miata ill will buy it t it. just as long its rwd.

reason why i own rx8, because it reminds me of a car that i owned before moving to the US. i thnk 8 has alot of FC featutres. but taht is just me.

 

I would have to see my life situation and my needs/income/etc and I will definitely wait till after the first year or two of production, and then compare it to it's competition.

+1, it only makes sense for them to put the 16x in production. The only question is how long we will have to wait.

+3257435354443. One of the new 3s was behind me yesterday and I couldn't look in the rearview without wanting to laugh, damn but that "face" is goofy.

I'll probably buy the new 16x car as soon as I can afford to. Only trouble is, It'll be damn hard to let the 8 go no matter how good the new car is.

 

Like it or not, gas mileage will be a big issue. If the new rotary can't get somewhere around 26-30 highway, they might as well not bother. Thats part of the reason people already avoid the RX8 like the plague. I do almost all highway driving and only get around 20 in my 8. That is no longer acceptable.

 

I love my 8, but the rotary is the weakest part. It's amazing fun to rev high through empty back roads, and a nice challenge to keep the engine on boil.

But in all other situations, it's useless. The car wouldn't be as nimble without it, but I feel if they spent the engineering effort on the chassis instead of the rotary and then wedged the turbo four in it, the car would be much more complete.

If not, I'm going 135i. I was driving my old mans 335i last night and I can't get that torque out of my mind.

 

i disagree with you. mazda is known for making balance and nimble cars regardless if its a piston or rotary.

 

For me to be interested in the next gen rotary vehicle it has to meet list below.

• Sub $45k
• RWD
• Great styling
• Solid performance
• Excellent handling
• Contemporary features

 

Smaller, 2-seater (or more of a fastback design), lighter and/or more power - I will be tempted

 

all depends on timng....Planning on buying a truck within 10 months or so as my DD and keep the 8 for fun etc etc.....def will have to have a completely manual gearbox(6 speed) and upgraded torque quite a bit....fuel mileage is not htat big of a deal as long as it does not get worse!.....

So if I have the funds .......YES

Had my RX-8 more then 2 years now, thats a new record in keeping a car and im not planning to sell it in atleast 2-3 years to come.

I usally get bored after 1-1,5 year with the same car but this is different, I cant get the rotary smooth high revving out of my head. its fabulous engineering.
The superb handling and looks dosent hurt either.

So will I get another Rotary? if im not broke and homeless then I will get it.

im down for that! ive had my 8 for almost 5 years.. and kinda getting dull.. especially when u remember being one of the few people with them. andnow u see ignorant HS kids (not saying all are but most) cruising around in them and wrecking them! ill prob still keep my 8 since its almost paid off but i would def consider a newer rotary.. all the other auto makers are re amping their lineup with exciting cars.. and to be honest the rotary engine is the only thing keeping me with this car.. sure the gas mileage is dum but im getting 295 miles just before the light comes on on alll highway and 315 if i go a little more.. equaly to almost 23 mpg wich to me is ok i guess.
chevy, NISSAN,pontiac, are all stepping it up mazda is just being "BLEH" the speed 3 looks ok to me but the FWD i think i woul have gotten one if it was rwd
