My RX8 starts 99% of the time in under 1.5-2 seconds. Two cranks it sounds like. BHR Ignition, spark plugs replaced about half a year ago. On occasion though if I let it idle for 20mins stationary, and then proceed to crank after letting it sit but still warm, it'll take longer than the 2 seconds to crank but I am so used to it cranking quickly that I let go of the key. I then assume that it may POSSIBLY flood, so I mash the accelerator pedal down and crank it and it'll start right up like normal. Hmm, anyone got any insight on that? I assume I could repeat the process by letting it idle for a long time, but I'd rather not lol.

Like I was saying though, it only happens if I let the car idle long, and shutt it off. Situation would be say, I go meet up with my car buddies and want to play some music and not kill the battery, so it could idle for 30 minutes or so, and I'll realize it's been wasting gas so I'll go shut it off. I can't assess a time frame, but I'll go back to crank it up, say to leave, and it'll stumble while trying to crank. Honestly it doesn't worry me, I assume the engine gets heat soaked, and it was during the summer. A side note, my engine was replaced last year and it's been absolutely fine with no issues. I also have a new Mishimoto radiator and that may actually help the engine out and prevent it from heat soaking in the future. For all I know, I may never see the issue again.

I'm having a similar issue. I replaced all the coils, plugs, wires, and MAF sensor. The car will start fine when it's cold, but takes a few cranks when it is hot. The shop I have it at noticed that when the engine is above 215 degrees, that's when it takes a while to start. The compression of the engine is 80% and 70%.
I got a compression test before replacing any of the parts. I will ask the shop to put in a new battery to see if that helps. The cat is only a couple of years old. I have about 173kms on the car.
