How long for carbon to build up?

So I've had my car for 4 months now and just brought it in yesterday for the 30k service.
(That's a whole other issue, I wasn't thrilled about shelling out $480 for it. I've always been mechanically inclined but I'm just to busy to find the time for all that)

Anyway they did the service and called me to say that I have some carbon build up and for $120 I can have them clean it with some "hot cleaner". I said I'd have to hold off for a bit.

So when I go to pick up my car I'm reading over the service receipt. I went back in and told them that it doesn't say anything about that they changed the trans / diff or brake fluids. The service guy assured me that it was done but that they couldn't fit it on the sheet. I told him I shift everyday and I didn't care that they changed the wiper blades (which they put on the paperwork) So he re-does the paperwork to list it.

I then said to him that since I've only had the car for 4 months that I think they should cover it for free (I bought the car there). He told me to talk to the sales dept.

(They did the same thing to me when I went for my first oil change. They said you need to replace your tires. I said I just bought the car a month ago. They did end up getting me a new set of tires though)

So my question is can I demand they pay for the carbon treatment? I told the guy I use only good gas and drive it like it is supposed to be and maybe the guy before me didn't. Can carbon build up in only 4 months?

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any input.

I mean, come on, man. You got a free set of tires out of the them? I think you won the battle there already. Karma.

Do you redline your engine every day? I haven't heard of this "hot cleaner" but if it's anything like a "fuel injection cleaning", it's just a money maker for the service department.

I red line the **** out of my car. So that's what I'm saying, I just don't know how the guy before me drove the car.
The only reason I got free tires is because they sold me a car with worn tires.
That's what I'm thinking is they just want to make as much off of me as they can.

Buy the Mada Zoom Zoom Cleaner and do it yourself! Save yourself some money that way, and even if it doesn't NEED it, your engine will be thanking you later.

As for 4 months...the carbon will build up all the time. Could it go from 0 to too much in 4 months? not likely at all.

The carbon build up is covered under the eight year one hundred thousand warranty. Look on page 15 under warranty.......

Thanks for the responses guys.

Would the warranty cover it though?
It says for customers with lack of power and low idle which I'm not experiencing.

"Customers who are currently experiencing a lack of engine power and low engine idle speed should have their
vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure."

"This warranty information applies only to verified customer complaints on vehicles eligible for war-
ranty repair. "

I would do the DIY but would rather them do it.
I'll ask them about the warranty and also ask the sales dept if not.

Thanks again guys and happy Rotoring!
