To answer your question, there are 2 places you can look. Down where your feet go, if there are 3 pedals, you have the fast version, if there are only 2, you have the slow one. Hard to believe there are 41 horsepower in that 3rd pedal huh? Or, look down just below your radio, if you see the letters P, N, D, M, you have the slow version. If you see 1,2,3,4,5,6,R, you have the fast one.
Don't sweat it. I have the AT too and it's still a blast to drive. If I wanted something to blow the doors off the Porsches and Beamers, it probably wouldn't be a Mazda.
Chances are, your salesman didn't lie to you - he just didn't have a clue. So, rather than admit that, he just told you what he thought you wanted to hear to make the sale. I avoid car salesmen and dealerships like the plague unless I have a fixed price in hand before I walk in the door.

^ for real I was at this 711 da othA nite and i all walk outt of da store with my drank and pull out my bad *** switch blade to hit the unlock. well as soon as the parking lights flash these two hotties came from the side of the store and start telling me how much they dig my car and wonderin what im doin l8tr. ok so get this, then this guy in a silver crossfire pulls up bumpin some big. at 1st i dun even pay attn to the xfire, but then i notice hb1 looking over and notice it!!111

They have different intake tracts...and different fuel injectors( MT has 6 AT has 4 but bigger ones)...the AT has a 4 port engine..the MT a 6 port......different transmissions. Different drive shafts.....
