Hmmm, could the recall have a direct connection to poor MPG?

Wink Hmmm, could the recall have a direct connection to poor MPG?

Just a wild a$$ theory, but...

With the thermal shield recall just starting, it will be very interesting to see if those with deformed gas tanks are also the ones experiencing really poor MPG.

Leaking gas tank = very crappy MPG?!!

I think this recall has more to do with pre-delivery floods and forced starts of the cars at the port and during the delivery process. You know they don't start and let the car warm up when they are moving it around the lots, and on and of the trucks. A full CAT full of fuel will be like blow torch under the car.........

just my theory :D

It's all about job security for the dealership techs.....an occasional recall keeps them gainfully employed.....

I would say most likely not, as I get 12.5 MPG and I am not on the recall list. But hey you never know.

Gomez ... I think you're on the right track ... but rather then Job security the occasional recall forces the dealers to train at least some of their techs or be libel for not doing the recall properly .... this is a training effort on Mazdas part. A clever but expensive training program.

I figured out the poor gas mileage thing a little while ago. I used to get around 14.5 mpg. Then I noticed something. Regardless of where I was in traffic, I was the fastest car. Pulling away from a traffic light, I was by far the fastest car.. Now, I accelerate and drive with the crowd (except for on occassion :-) and I am now getting about 20mpg in the city, 22 mixed and 25 on the highway..

You guys should give it a try. Next time you are first at a light. Take note once you hit the sppe limit -- is anyone else around?
