Speaking of RX-7 legacy, I was wondering what the story was about that SHIFT-UP idiot light. This photo seems to suggest that some markets got stuck with it.

I'm very glad that they did away with it on my 8. I found them embarrassing on my 7s. I'm sure that someone figured out which wire to clip to get rid of that.

Actually the output revs of a (any) Wankel engine is somewhat fake. For every revolution of the rotor, the excenter shaft makes three revolutions. So at redline
(9000 rpm) the rotors run just at 3000 rpm. Since the Renesis has no peripheral ports, the two spark plug holes are the only interruption of the smooth surface for the apex seals. Not much to worry about... The Wankel engine is designed for (and most efficient by design principle at) high engine speeds.

I'm glad we did not get the "ford" shiftt arrow. I would like a louder Beep!
