Unhappy Hit in a parking lot.

I was returning from lunch and was about to pull into a parking spot when I see a car backing up into me from the left! My first instinct was to throw it in reverse as fast as possible and back out of the way, but I instantly realized I couldn't do it fast enough, so I slammed on the horn right before he hits my front left side. He gets out of his car and I'm still thinking "I know this just didn't happen" My car is 8 months old and I still baby it. When he stepped out of his car, I could hear music blaring. He obvious didn't see me at all, even though he said he looked. Well anyways, thought I would share. Here are the pictures, the damage isn't too bad, but I want it fixed like it never happened. There is a tiny crack in the bumper and the body shop says that it needs to be replaced. I feel bad for the guy kinda, but he should be more careful when hes backing out. I was practically sitting still when he hit me! I have ti gray, it was overcast day and he was in a minivan. So I can understand how my car is a bit stealthy and sits low. The estimate came up to $1700 for the new bumper and new wheel and there is a dent in the fender. I cleaned the break dust of my wheel last night and I saw that some paint has been scrapped off the wheel and some smaller dents are made in it.

Sorry to hear about this. I got rear-ended 15 days after I got mine (Jan 14). Damage was minor, but there were injuries, so my trip to the body shop was delayed by the lawyer and the other guy's insurance company.

It's bad enough to involved in an accident, but it seems so much worse when the car is so new.

Ouch. Sounds like the time someone backed into the middle of my car as I sat waiting for someone to pull out of a spot. Hopefully they won't try and blame YOU for it once insurance gets involved like in my situation.

I understand your worry - you realize that the replacement bumper comes in a neutral color and the body shop will try to match the color as good as possible - maybe they will paint other parts of your car to blend it in. That was necessary in my case when I had damage on a previous car ina similar area. THey ended up painting the left side all the way including the driver?s door. That car had a kind of two-tone color, like the purple shinka.
Maybe titanium is easier to paint.

All in all I think you are still lucky. My RX8 got hit when it was 4 months old , at work! on the parking lot, and I did NOT sit in it. Needless to say, I paid for the new part myself since it was less than deductible.
In the last 3 years, I got parking lot damage by an unknown person 3 times. The worst was a white pickup truck which I saw when I parked but there were 8 feet space between my car and him. I don?t know how he managed to make that 6 foot long scrape on my door and rear quarter. Luckily I was driving my junker that day. Nope that +++hole of F250 driver did not notice his deed either.

my boyfriend borrowed my ride and got hit in a parking lot a week before my one year anniversary with the 8. scratched the front bumper and we're still waiting for the insurance check. the guy denied it but there was a witness who wanted to be included in the report. anyways, me and my bf went to Kroger's for groceries earlier today and got in line. and what do you know, the jerk who backed into my car was in the line ahead of us. he didn't even look at us even though my bf turned and told me pretty loudly that he was the guy who hit my car. i just wanted to punch him.

hope you get your check in a timely manner. i'm still waiting and i don't even know about how much it will be.

Yes... I would have immediately jumped out of my car turned to the guy and yelled, "YOU IDIOT THIS CAR IS GRAY NOT SILVER!!!!!"

But seriously, after they paint the new bumper watch the paint match carefully. I think you will be better served by doing a color match from the fender or hood and not just going with the Mazda paint code of 29Y (or whatever it is). And as mentioned above, they may need to blend into the hood fender to get it to look right.

Viva la France!!!

Example of bad match:

Definitely make sure they blend into surrounding panels. Otherwise the paint will mismatch eventually if not right away. Especially on the Mica paints. One of the adjusters for the insurance co of the guy that hit me quoted for 2 stage instead of 3 sage paint. If the mica is mixed into the base paint stage it will not look right at all. base paint, then mica, then clear coat.

Sucks doesn't it. At least you know who did it and can push for them to pay instead of you. Mine got backed into a month ago when I took the wife and kids to a movie. Hit and run in my case so I have to pay for it all.

Make sure you find out how much your insurance will go up and for how many years. In my case the cost if insurance increase was the same as the repair bill. I hate insurance companies.

That really sucks. Sorry 'bout your '8.

I've had 2 previous cars hit in parking lots and had the driver run off. Fortunately, it hasn't happened with my '8. I just hope that if it ever does occur again that I can see it happen. I'll wait for the jerk to drive off, get his tag number, and then call the police. Perhaps a little jail time would serve ******** like that right. Isn't hit and run a felony?

OH-oh. Could be the Parking Lot Curse of the Titanium Gray. Mine got snagged in the same place (left front) on Monday and it's at the shop right now, although mine was a hit-and-run while parked. Either way, I sure hope your story turns out okay and that it doesn't become an insurance fight. Best of luck.

Must be invisable in a parking lot or something.

I don't like this trend. They'll probably clip my RIGHT front fender as soon as I get my 8 back and park it, or worse yet, steal it. Maybe all Titanium Grays should come with a Trunk Monkey as standard equipment. :p

I feel your pain, since I had my 8 hit twice in the parking lot both times the bastards ran. Which is strange maybe my winning blue is really a titanium gray but with a dye job. Grabitquick I think we all need the trunk monkey or at lest stronger panels and paint.

How about EXPLODING body panels and paint that detonate within 30 seconds if a note isn't left on the windshield? Now, there's an idea . . .

I am going to the body shop with the guy who hit me in just a second. I am worried abou the matching of paint. On the estimate they said they would have to blend the hood. I'll keep you updatd when I have more time.

Best of luck. I'm supposed to hear from my body shop today, and they'll probably have to blend my hood, also.
