Just an Update.. My 8 has just hit 250k Kms. Needle stoped working at 241k Kms..
Also, discovered the Engine was replaced at 35k kms in 05 so I take my previous statment back lol.

My 8 has been awesome through out the winter, started just fine during -41 c, delivered great performance in snow storms with Ice Blazer winter tires, had to add 30 pounds in the trunk for traction. Rest all has been great, its just catchin rust in the rear panel at a fast pace.

While not my vehicle, I ran across a Craigslist posting for a 2004 RX8 with 145,000 miles located in Van Nuys

85K on an '06 - having some issues, got SSV solenoid and BHR ignition setup en route. Might need to do O2 sensor after that, gonna have fuel pump/filter replaced soon to be safe. Hoping to break 150k before selling but we'll see!

I wonder if someone could map out all the engine mileage numbers geographically.... see if there are spots or gas stations they the renisis will live long and happy on.

I have 138,600 on my 04 and still runs strong. Getting a tune up and new motor mounts soon. Probably a compression test as well (of course)

I have a hypothesis regarding this.

I would love to test it, but can't unless Mazda released aggregate, factual data.

I would bet that the largest % of Renesis failures occur:

1) In very hot areas, especially if coolant system maintenance has been lacking;

2) In automatic RX8s, given their one oil cooler versus two in the 6MT;

3) In vehicles that have been modded heavily;

4) In vehicles where owners have been using 5W-20 oil and have failed to keep it topped off and changed at short (3,000) OCIs .

I am not saying there haven't been issues where owners have been diligent, with 6MTs, even in more moderate climates; I'm speaking of statistically more likely than not failures.

By the way, I'm at 103,000 miles on my 2005 6MT on original motor and she runs like new. I can't find a decent replacement for this car. I've tried and given up. Any vehicle I have driven that has its balance of handling, comfort and positive traits is at least 2x as much, and even then, many of these higher priced cars lack the complete goodness of the 8.

I have hit 131K with the original engine on a 2004 6 speed manual. No problems and the only mod is a BHR ignition kit. I live in sunny New Mexico.

i could do that, easily, if everyone would reliably report year, replaced/original motor, mileage, manual/auto, oil type/weight, zip code, and preferred fuel. just a quick dump into a spreadsheet, then a very quick heatmap via google apps. easy.

in the following format

2004.original.118000.manual.10w30.17552.sunoco 93

my specs are above. 118k and runs great.

There's something wrong with your vehicle to the point you need to pull some codes. Seriously.

Is it misfiring, running rich, lean, low rpm, high rpm, idling rough, etc.?

Get a scanner or have someone do a diagnostic scan.

Geeez! Looks like they're selling it "not running" though... Who knows how many engines it's had.

I have a 2004 rx8 6spd mt. its at 134,000 miles. I'm scared.

You guys made me scared saying nobody passes 60,00

What can I do to maintain my car? And there is no apparent problems so far. Engine was never changed or anything.

I had 85754 on mine before she over heated and water seal failure forced me to rebuild . At tear down all major components were with in specs . Apex seals were rounded over on one edge .
I replaced all bearings and a new eshaft , pineapple racing water seals , atkins apex seals . we upped oil pressure , new OMP lines ,
