What can I do to maintain my car? And there is no apparent problems so far. Engine was never changed or anything.
Drive it like you stole it!

In other words, make sure you keep the revs up and drive it hard.

GA RX8 Mileage

I realize this original question was few years back but the RX8 I just bought my son has 224K on it and runs pretty good. Changed the coil packs, wires and plugs due to a little skip and then the fuel pump due to a stalling issue and the car runs great. Fast and strong.

140k on my o4 6spd. still got good compression. I want to say that the original owner had the new mazda motor put in at 60k. I have compression checks done on it woth rotary specific tools, regularly. Bout to drive it up to goodland kansas pretty soon! Haha

I've got 99,000 KMS (61,000 Miles) on mine, still running strong, good compression, no issues other than a problem I had last year that was fixed with new coils.

I made a post on the general forum that, as long as you do good maintenance on the car and keep it in good shape, even with a 20% engine failure rate (which is an astronomically high number), 80% dont fail, or at least, don't fail at less than 100,000 miles. So what I'm saying is the odds that your engine will keep running are much higher than getting a blown engine.

Took this picture last month. First reman-engine at 167,305 miles. Right now, it has been very good but the coolant started to have an external leak, a new radiator is in check. And, I might have to replace/gut the CAT if I find it clogged once I get under the car, again.

I crossed 200,000 a couple weeks ago in my '04. 2nd engine, but slowly losing compression. Everything else seems fine.

Something interesting - I am currently at 157,XXX on the original engine and still going (I think, Mazda has no record of rebuilding or replacing the engine and I have had all maintenance records pulled and the previous owner did all there repair work at the dealer it appears). I have owned the car the past 47k miles. I do have low compression (tested at dealer, both Doritos failed) i feel a big power loss around the 4k-5.5k range if i push the engine very hard. I do continue to drive it daily at 90 miles a day. I still do the daily driving at higher rpms and change my oil on time and do the other stuff that is good for rotary engines. (I surprisingly do not leak coolant)

This is my second RX8 and have owned and have owned them for a combined 5 years so I do have a good understanding of how the car should drive. The odd thing is, I moved from Pennsylvania to the southwest and the car drives completely different. It started very hard when warm while living in the northeast; in the southwest it doesn't start as hard when its warm and i don`t have near the problems I once had in the different climate. I also have a theory that carbon/something is building up in certain areas and "may/could" be helping to seal the seals naturally. I could also be dead wrong and its dumb luck. But I have been driving the car for almost 20K miles since testing for low compression.

I do recognize that i am hitting the point where my miles are so high i doubt a rebuild or engine swap is even worth it on the car. I still have the original tranny and clutch to my knowledge.

Anyway, the other day I was making an appointment for a normal servicing and my trusty dealer asked how many miles I had on my 2004. I, being the incredibly honest person that I am, answered 59,925 miles. His retort was 'Nobody has 60,000 miles on their RX-8.' Well, I almost do (by tomorrow I will have 60K as it is 26 miles one-way to work for me).

So here is my question: Who has the most miles on their RX? And that means on their ORIGINAL engine...which is what mine has.

59,964 miles right now on my 2004.
hello very new here I’ve used the website for the past two years and it helps me every time but I just made an account today just a fyi, but my 2004 rx8 is at 170xxx I literally cant tell if you guys are joking or if that just means my engine has been rebuilt multiple times? I’ve only driven that car 20xxx miles but I got it at 150xxx car runs great still

Somewhere else on this board I posted about selling my 2004 with 215,000 miles on it a few months ago. (2nd engine.). Sold it to a mechanic who wanted a manual transmission for his son. I wasn’t about to spend $2500 every 6 months to keep it running, but he can keep it fixed up for a lot less.

My 8 has over 175k miles on it. I run it at high rpms, use premium gas, and keep 5w20 high mileage synth blend on hand. I also always warm it up before driving. The only modification I made was to add a Flow Master exhaust.

10 over isn't too unreasonable around most places. Around where I live, speed limit is set to be a cash grab. It's scientifically proven.

And most vehicles(ships, cars, etc.) can be referred as a "she". It's not a strange thing. Don't be PC about it, please.

TBF a lot of Europeans don't understand how things work in the States and Canada, and vice versa. It happened around another car forum I go to.

From my understanding, in most European countries, you can only get away with only about 1 or 2 MPH over(basically whatever the tolerance of the laser/radar gun is), but I also imagine that the speed limit is set so that 85% of the population will drive around that. You then catch the idiot rich teenagers in their Lambo. And there will always be your stereotypical Prius drivers no matter where you go. It's a fairly good system.

Around here, however, this is not at all how this works around here.

This is a very humourous, yet educational video on this subject. Really, I think all European folks should watch it before they start screaming at us about speeding.

Stu, maybe not call longstanding members 'bawbag' until you've been here more than two days?

I currently have 252.000km on my 2006 RX8, and that's still running on the original (never rebuilt) engine. 157.500 miles, btw
