Hey...I know whats new for '05 RX-8..

was at the dealership getting my oil changed, the temp control **** replaced and the sliding console lid replaced and happened to come upon a brochure on top of the parts department desk so i browsed through it of course..only to find that '05 gets a new KEY FOB!!!...they are now going to use the retractable key fobs with integrated remote buttons like BMW and all those others...

I think i'm going to go trade my '04 in now...

i'm so not impressed.... :o

Wonder if they're backwards compatible. If it's the same RFID tag and the same size/shape for the teeth, I don't see why not. I wouldn't mind getting rid of more dangley stuff on my keychain.

I wonder how much HP those new key fobs add ? And I bet we'll get another 1 MPG because of them ... heh

On a seriouse note, I am glad they are changing to the newer key styles; saves a lot of space in your pocket.

Hopefully, we'll be able to get them as well and program them for the '04s. I'm sure they'd be $250+ units if we could get them.

Usually folding keys are laser cut and do not have "teeth" like normal keys. They are smooth on the outside with their teeth laser cut on the inside....attached is a blurry pic of a VW key so you can catch my meaning. If Mazda follows this trend, the new key will not work for our cars.

I miss my VW folding key ...

BUT if they go to a all-in-one integrated key fob and key like Honda/Acura which still have teeth, then I think they should be usable on our cars.

I actually really like those kinds of keys and hope they make them available for the '04s.

I emailed the service manager at Jeff Haas about the availabilty of these fobs for '04s--if he knows anything about it and is helpful I'll post the info here. I'd definately upgrade to this--as long as they aren't rediculously priced.

Well, I'm holding out for the '05's, but I was hoping this thread was going to give info on something a bit more exciting than this.

But I'll take it...

Ditto. Is it just a new key fob? Any other improvements (DoD, GDI, FI)? This thread should be dedicated to all improvements on the 2005 RX-8.
