I am trying very hard to convince my father that to get the nav would be a very nice feature that i would love to have especialy for road trips. And the firs words out of his mouth are hey if you need directions just call the cops and im like ??? are you serious. Ok so im in ohio calling the local cops hey do u know the way back to toms river nJ

Can some 1 give me some other reasons i could try to convince him with.

Because calling the cops in Ohio with New Jersey plates would get you arrested for snipe hunting, a murder that happened before you were born, and drug dealing, because everybody knows that ALL kids from New Jersey deal drugs.

Unfortunately, I'm with your dad. As long as AAA is giving out free maps, I can't see the need for a nearly $2,000 option which reads maps less efficiently than I do. Best of Luck.

Um, it rocks and you'll be able to recover most of the value on resale (true or not, it makes a good argument)

Personally, I don't have a need for nav. Getting lost and finding my way out is part of the fun - and gives me more seat-time in the 8!

Just yesterday, I was in an unfamiliar area of Denver . . . the Nav system told me the exact location of the window tint shop (she spoke, "The destination is on the right"). I would have never seen the signs, and looking for specific addresses on buildings can be frustrating. Nav system saves time when you can't chase down a cop!

Yeah ive had the car for 2 months and I have already used it many times. Houston can be a very confusing city, especially downtown. If you are VERY familiar with a place and dont ever travel, dont get it. But if you like in a metropolitan area, its worth it and looks cool when you turn on the car. :D

Yeah but wait until you ask the navigation system for an alternate route. You can get some REALLY LONG alternates in some cases. Talk about seat time!

Offering to pay for it yourself might also help..

And no, you don't get your money back at resale. On average GPS will retain a quarter of its original price.

If you really want it, why don't you just chip in the bucks to make up the difference?

I wouldn't protest too much. Someone might talk some sense into your Dad and you'll end up with something like a Mazda 3.

I was going to get one but it didn't come with the model I wanted that was on the lot. Anyhow, I am glad I did not. The ones at this site run around $1000 (half the cost of the MAZDA GPS). It is definitely a good tool to have instead of fumbling with printed directions or maps

I've got one in my 8, probably have used it twice in 1/2 year. If you travel out of town alot, I say it would be worth it, but if all your driving is in your hometown it just isn't needed.

Exclamation

Safety, Resale value, and you can hack into and make it show movies, Play Station, Lap Top computer, Revers backup camera.

I might not tell him you can use it to show movies. But i would tell him you can make it a Rearview back up camera !!!!

P.s its always a good thing when you have a really good map that talks to you. You dont have to take your eyes off the road.. or pull over in the dark somewhere and try to read it while some hoods come up and jack your car !!!!
