help me! oil light. on the road, 5 hours from home

My oil light came on while driving home today. I'm 5 hours from home.

checked the level, she's full. After starting back up, 5 more miles and it happened again/

I'm using wireless internet at a closed toyota dealership right now. I have no clue what to do. Its sunday and everything is closed

I'm off route 40 in hagerstown, md

she's running fine

Just to cover the basics, you did wipe the dipstick before checking the level... right?

Is your vin number between 2004 RX8 - VINS: JM1FE17* *40000000 to 40111043 ?
Early 2004 had an issue with the oil pan that would show a false low oil reading.

Yes. She was about a 3/4 or 4/5 full. Filled it up completely. My buddy thinks its a minor electrical problem. The gauge is fine, just the light. I'm gonna drive home with the music off and listen to the engine the whole time. Hopefully I make it.

Then as expo1 stated above, it may just be giving you a false reading.
I wouldn't worry about it.

You could still have a flaky oil level switch.

you will be fine - as long as you have checked the level manually and all is well there ...

See if your car is in this vin range on this "TSB". If it is you might be OK. When you start your car dose the oil gage needle move to the right of the center like normal?

When mine had this problem (it was the sensor) it only happened above 75mph on straight highway.

Dealer replaced pan and sensor.

Just got home. She ran great. No oil light or anything. I'll get the tsb's checked on my next oil change.

Purred like a kitten, even when redlining 3rd gear (I got a 4 speed)
