Have an Oil Light question for you guys. Mechanics are stumped.

Hey guys. I got into a fender bender a couple weeks ago. Car has been in the shop getting worked on etc. No engine damage, no oil pan damage, no suspension damage, strictly cosmetics. Im dying to have the car back, and its due to me today, but I just got a phonecall from the body shop saying the Oil light has been coming on, then turning off, at random times. The oil pressure is fine, the oil level is fine. Not sure what it could be, he called mazda, waiting on a call back, but maybe any of you guys have experienced this? Hopefully I can get an answer for him.

Cliffs:

Oil light comes on periodically for no reason, then turns off, every once in a while.
Pressure / Level is fine.

Any ideas what it could be?

Bodymen are not techs. Make sure you have them note it down and take it to the dealer to dg/repair the car and dont let the Insurance co. tell you its not related!

They arent strictly body workers only. Theres a body portion, and a mechanic portion etc.

Edit: It wont be considered under not related because he called me asking me if this was a problem since before the accident. I told him no, which it wasnt. No idea what it could be though, no engine damage or anything, just the front bumper.

I wish I could see the estimate. Intrested in seeing the "R&I's/R&R's"

It's probably the sensor in the oil pan..or the harness to it acting up.

Come on guys!

Had mine fixed by dealer, in 2005.
TSB's from 2005 - seventh one up from the bottom "oil level sensor on, when oil not low"

Thanks Stealth. Though they said there was no oil pan damage. I have only 10k miles on the car, its an 07. Could this still be the issue? I cant see it possible.

Nah, not if the sensor is bad from the factory - mine would come on only between 80/90 mph and no other time.
