Question Harsh Weather fuel cutoff?

I live in the Washington D.C. area and I had let my RX-8 sit for a few days and it wouldn't start. I had mazda take it in, and the mechanic told me it switched the fuel cutoff on due to harsh weather conditions and they updated the software, and everything should be fine from now on. Does anyone know what the deal with this is? It was only sitting for a couple of days witch is very common. The weather actually wasn't even that cold. Has anyone else had this experience that with this problem or know more about it?
thanks
