I am going to take this and make you read what you just wrote. If you are a DIE HARD, CLASSIC fan of SPORTS CARS, then why can't you ACCEPT the fact that the RX8 is a SPORTS CAR and doesn't NEED to 'beat' anything?? I know plenty of guys that own 65 'Stangs that a Corolla could WALK but do they care? No. What about those Stingray caravans you see traveling through Blue Ridge sometimes....do you think they care if they beat the Eclipse from the light? NO! THAT is the point I am trying to make to you..thanks, and goodnight! Oh, and Happy St. Patrick's!!

edit: this is why i have a love/hate relationship with the american car market...unless it is BETTER in HP/TQ/Quarter mile than everything else in and below it's class (whatever that is), it SUCKS. sure, it's great that this forces automakers to realize new heights in these areas, but, as is evidenced by the 350z, it makes for disppointments elsewhere (interior). the RX-8 has the package where others don't.

Unfortunately, your introduction was to post an extremely inflammatory thread title, and then make some rather unenlightened statements. What did you expect to happen on a forum that's full of people that love the car? You've pretty much alienated the entire forum with ONE post.

I'll tell ya, a guy over at my apt complex got a 8 and when he saw me installing my first stage1 came over to chat. First thing he mentioned was how he had raced some friends and he tried to take on a 350Z. Are you him? Cause like I said that other day, it's not a car for acceleration racing, plain and simple. If thats what ya wanted then you got the wrong car. The car is quick. Anybody who says it's slow is using the wrong yard stick.

So you're saying the Porche 911 Turbo, the Nissan Skyline GTR, and the Lamborghini Murcielago are not sports cars? .....Ok

RedRX8Guy the RX-8 can be a fast car, you just have to drive it like you hate it. It is not a quick car though so it will never be a stoplight commando. The RX-8 Doesnt shine between stoplights, take it to a canyon or up a mountian road.

As for all the STI comments...Yes it's faster, and it handles roughly the same if not better. It has a much harsher ride, and some people think it doesnt look as good.

It feels to me like a mid 15 second car. Power is not the only reason I got it, I really like it and it unique and fresh. I am somewhat involved in the street racing scene here and I was expecting a bit more power but I will just have to spend a bit to get it back..

At least I can get some of the power back with the kit, too bad I just missed the deadline of the buyback, could of had $500

PS. The reason I got it without the test drive was because I was gonna get it regardless, they only had 1 MT on the lot that had what I wanted in it and it was nearly sold to another person. I felt I knew enough about it to warrent buying it.

Also the 350z was tops on my list but I needed the trunk and storage space for work related reasons.

Have you considered the 6 speed G35 Coupe before making your purchase at the time? Like many people have said on this forum before, the RX-8 wasn't meant to be a stoplight queen. This car is more about balance, the driving experience (fun factor), and the package as a whole.

Yup. That's why we bought it. We like to rev it to hell. That is it's raison d'etre :D

Try to keep up with it once it IS moving.

If you don't like these things about it, you definitely bought the wrong car.

That's flat out incorrect, the Type S has gobs of bodyroll and isn't near the sportscar nor the handler the Type R was. The second gen. MR2 on the otherhand is one of the best handling japanese cars of all time and I've seen a couple of them turn the fastest lap on a given sunday at autox.

If you paid 30k+ for a car, and never test drove it, you're an idiot.

Hey Red I livein Coral Gables. Iwill come by w/my Titanium automatic Rx8 and raceyou. That should make youfeel better hombre. Bythe way I dont think finding an Rx8 in manual is that hard downhere at all. Also even w/the mods that peopleare mentioning to you here --youstill are going to have a very hard time beating a 350z or s2000. Weboth know a big reason why you bought the car was for looks b/c if you only cared about speedyou would have gotten an ugly Lancer EVO or WRX STI.

Well he was 20 plus second's faster than the m3 and corvettes that were their.
Granted hes an instructor and drive the track all the time but his point was that power is nothing with out knowing how to drive .
When he drove the rx-8 he made me feel like I was 15 with a learner's permit.

btw I also own two very fast domestic (63 nova and a 63 truck)
the truck runs low 13 alllll day and the nova has broke into the low12's but regardless the rx-8 is still more fun.
I can auctually take a turn in it.
Do you self a favor take a drivers course.

20seconds faster at laguna seca?? uhhhh...then how fast were the m3's and corvettes clocking?? something doesn't seem right

I think everyone knows what has to be done here, and it;s okay, I;m on the case. My cousin lives in Miami, I have traced this guys IP address and getting his vital info with that. let's just say he won't be driving his 8 anytime soon, or any vehicle other than a motorized wheelchair. I just hope he has good insurance.

Let this be a lesson to anyone that thinks they're gonna come on our board and try and sh*t on the Mazda corporation. We'll let him live as a bitter twisted shell of his former self to anyone else from Miami that thinks they can get away with this behavior.

Time to go to the mattresses.

In all fairness Red, your low post count and the fact that your name resembled the name of a frequent poster here made it seem to me at least like you were a petulant young non-RX8-owning basher trying to mock those who drive this car . Had I known you owned an 8 and were just engaging in a little self-mockery, I would have replied otherwise.

Regardless, if you're unhappy with the power of this car, I'm with the rest of these people in NOT sympathizing with you over this. You should really just trade it in for something you'll be happy with.

In my opinion, real sports cars are RWD. AWD cars that are principle RWD can also be sports cars. The Porsche C4 are RWD with extension to the front wheels. The new Jaguar is a Ford Tarus which is FWD with extension to the rear wheels. There are "sporty" and fast FWD cars, but you will not see F1 runing FWD. Weight transfer physics says, under acceleration weight transfers to the rear wheels, and under braking to the front wheels. FWD are safer for the average driver and cheaper to build. My wife drives a FWD as a family car, and a RWD as a Sports car. I still wil only drive a RWD or an AWD that the core of the drivetrain is RWD.

I think this guy is just a young punk who does'nt own anything. Appears his purpose is to knock the 8 with comparisons to small cars built for speed. He does'nt consider any other attributes of a sports car until challeged about his intentions of his original post.
The 8 is obviously faster than most cars. Of course there is a niche of fast cars it will not beat. Who cares. I didn't buy the car for that . I don't race and the power is there when I need it. The 8 is a dream on the freeway. It's the fastest car I ever owned. I could'nt ask for more in a car.
Hope you had fun posting your insult. To bad so many responed including me. Just helps reinforce what a great car we have here. I would'nt trade it for anything.

RedRx8Guy, you bought the right color, that's all that's important here. P.S. Will someone please kill this thread? This poor guy's been totally flamed off the planet. Just let this thread die!

To everyone else, I think I am going to post a DIY on how to delete a thread you started.
